Hi, I now have a 94 imported 300ZX in Sapphire Blue.

I can't believe I’ve waited so long to get one, since I admired the cars way back in the early 90’s

Anyway, my "just needs a re-gas" on the a/c has turned out to be about £850 new parts (eek!). Just wondering how many others out there have good working a/c, or have many just not bothered to have it fixed ?

Also, is it me, or are the rear spoilers now out of fashion ?

I notice quite a few cars no longer have a spoiler. Are they easy to remove, or does this mean welding up hole & total re-paint ?

Finally, I have ended up with a blue car (same as the one in the first Kill Bill film), but really wanted yellow. Is yellow cool ? (looks very good on the zed to me!), or are most people out there anti yellow ?

Just wondered!

Oh, I have read the website rules!

Cheers,

Tim

Welcome to the club Tim - and great choice of colour if I may say so.....

....regarding your a/c, get your car to Jeff at Zedworld. When I bought mine the a/c didn't work as the condenser had a hole in it.

I called the local a/c specialist who quoted an obscene price - he reckoned the whole front of the car had to come off....!!

Took it to Jeff and IIRC he charged me about £150 for a replacement condenser and £80 for the re-gas; all plus VAT. Job done and mine works perfectly; ice cold even on the hottest days!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Welcome to the forum! The right yellow looks nice but it's got to be the right shade. As for the a/c, if it's hot enough to use it just take the targa roofs off!!

welcome to the club

personally i binned the a/c on all of my zeds, saps power, weighs alot, but that's all down to personal preference, (and if you have a targa or not)

as for spoiler in short messy to remove, just about to replace mine with a mid level spoiler.

i like yellow zeds, but get some pictures up so we can

analyse it:biggrin:

Hi Tim. :)

Never had problems with the A/C myself. Lots of the big power guys ditch em but i know ill be keeping mine.

Yup rear spoilers are a bit dated, although tidied up they can look good. 96 or 99 spec spoliers are a popular choice.

Removing the original spoiler isnt as easy as you would think. It leaves a hell of a mess and lots of holes to fill. Defo a repaint

Yup yellow can look cool. Wouldnt have it myself though. Blue looks great on a zed. Just check out AndyP's ride section

Welcome matey :)

If you wanted to keep your a/c then secondhand parts are the way forward. But, as said a lot of people have just ditched there's. Mainly as a weight and fuel saving measure. It doesn't really affect power as the a/c is turned off under hard acceleration.

Yellow can be a very nice colour on zed's but it does suffer from fading under the sun.

Yellows great if you get the shade right! But then so is blue. And you've gotta take the interior into consideration. My old mr2 was 8 shades of red so he looked much better in bright yellow and I could always find him in the car park!!

Welcome to the world of Zeds, I hope you realise that your life will never be the same again. All for the good I hasten to add.

Thanks guys. My spoiler is standard Nissan Fairlady for that year (actually 93) and not super huge Joe 90 version.

Car is in paint shop & service bay at the moment (rust at top of windscreen plus dented wing).

Do I take it that all you Z owners without spoiler, took them off the hard way, or can you buy used tailgates without ?

Oh, yes, the front window trim that extends over the targa roof, has lost black coating. Is this common & is there an easy fix, or scrape it off for a chrome look ?

Thank

Welcome bud , zeds look good in any colour especially blue  lol

Hallo Tim,

sorry to hear about the aircon, it was working up to this spring (can be confirmed by Mr F's garage. They also replaced the aircon pulley in July 2010). PM me with what they say the parts are needed. I did a lot of research when my first silver one blew a fusible plug and Nissan quoted nearly a grand for one bit of pipe.

RichardSmith's suggestion is a good one and I can also recommend MirageAir who diagnosed and fixed the silver one also regassed the blue one previously.

I would question a bill of that size without knowing what exactly they say is wrong because there were no indications of any issue when the prevous aircon and zed experts looked at it within the past 12 months or so. In any case, I'm keen to help.

Here's a how-to on replacing the trim parts. http://s95014253.onlinehome.us/63104/13701.html

I think Jeff/Jamie at Zedworld independently rediscovered the drill-through method on the targa pieces.

These part numbers are more recent than the ones given in the US how-to and they do suit a JDM 2+2

Oh, and having had the proper S1 spoiler on my S1 and the S3 spoiler on the S3, I am still finding it hard to get used to the naked rear end of my S6. Seriously considering adding the S6 spoiler one day. I've said this before that I think the large bumper below the boot line needs something to balance it above the boot line. Looks a bit "Manx cat" without it. But chacun a son gout, anyway.
