Decided to dig out my Data Scan cable and software today.

I thought I would install it on my daughters lap top so as to check out the Nissan,

all was going well up until I came to connect the cable! :confused1:

Ooops, nothing to connect to (at the lap top that is).

can anyone tell me if there is some kind of adaptor cable, or is my software/cable out of date?

Sorry to appear vague, but I am not very IT

New laptops use usb connections where as older models used serial ports or a combination of both, most scan cables use serial connectors and as in most cases usb to serial convertors do not work the only way around it is to buy an old laptop just for using the scanner with, ebay is good for this, get one for around £50 does not need to be anything fancy just to have the correct serial port.

mine does work fine with just a cheapo serial to USB adapter cable, worth a shot for a couple of quid...

Be aware of missing conversion data that leads to corruption and can give incorrect readings, rare to see a cheap convertor work 100% correctly, hope your is though.

I have taken your advice and gone with a cheap laptop, just need to replace the bios battery and install a suitable operating system.

Can't wait.
