Afternoon All

Well Ive managed to bag myself a gorgeous zed car after years of having minis and more recently alfas.

Its a 91 plate TT totally standard looking. even has the flare from when it was in Japan thats how original it is!

bodywork is in fairly good nick. couple surface bubbles appeared but nothing too bad. had all the usual mods like turbo timer etc. only thing it has which is weird is a boost gauge still in the japanese unit!

anyway here are some pics :) enjoy!

MPH looks like a sticker, looks like japclocks, no doubt you will have a KPH/MPH speed converter unit on the clocks.

so it "should" be showing the right speed then?

why would an import have jap clocks? :S

Welcome, and congrats on the purchase.

erm....becuase its from japan

because its a import lol, almost all imports into the UK are jap imports, so makes sense for them to be fitted with jap clocks due to showing correct mileage, if it hasn't got a MPH converter on it, it would still be reading in KPH

UK clocks are hard to come by as they get snapped up by those with imports, means you don't have to have the KPH to MPH converter on it, as the clocks sort out the correct speed readings.

Most imports are a mixture of KPH and miles on the odometer as well.

clear as mud ;)

haha no I get it, so the oddometer is in kph till import then comes over here, gets a converter then its worked out in miles. makes sense :)

first thing im going to be doing is installing an aftermarket boost gauge as I want one thats accurate. Can anyone suggest any that they have that are decent? Ill be putting it on the a pillar in a pod. next question of course will be..... how do these go in. are they pure electronic or is it a case of tapping in to a vacuum pipe and taking the reading from there?

lol ^^ I thought they changed the clocks though as per this.... >>> http://www.300zx.org.uk/mod_comp_1.htm

The spec differences refers to Official Export models.

You car is a personal Import, like most Z32's in the UK, and its spec will be as per the "Domestic specification (Japan)"

Boost gauge is plumbed into the vacuum pipe in the engine bay, T piece in between the boost sender and the balance bar. then wire in the illumination

Check your paper work to see if it does indeed have a KPH to MPH converter. should tell you on a bit of paper what the KPH on the engine was at the time it was converted and also what to take off the current odometer reading to get a idea of the correct mileage.

Not all imports have the converter installed by the importer. my first 300zx didnt.

where is the converter located? i guess i can tell if i drive it and check the speed wit my sat nav too on that speed readout?

converter is usually mounted to the read of the cluster,

When checking with the satnav, just remember your sat nav is going to be more accurate than the cluster, (it is on everything but a traffic police car) you will find your are doing usually 4 to 5mph slower than your sat nav if its reading properly

If I can find any vac hose long enough yes. Gave the pipe off my old car away with a previous boost gauge!
