Never been a fan of the 89-98 Z spoiler, I believe its a dated design.

However TwinZ have come out with their own interpretation of the spoiler, and I would probably consider it as an option for my slicktop.

Take a look. As per their rear diffuser bumper, It will be available through Z1 Motorsports.

I admit the changes are subtle, but I believe they have done a good job of modernising the overall design.

not that much different from the 89spec to be honest mate.

its like their rear bumper design - it follows the same design as original, but improves on it.

It a lot curvier, and sticks out further, plus led brake light (stock brake light is very dated)

I quite like that, but I'd rather it extended a tad more like the Wangan spoilers fitted to a lot of 'S' bodies in Japan

Group buy anybody?

i actually think the 89spec is one of the best looking spoilers for the car. very well designed, and nothing stopping you modding the brake light to LED's.

Not sure on that one from different angles. it was never about the spoiler "sticking out more" but more the overall look of the car with it on.

I think nissan got it just right the first time, twins haven't actually improved on the design as far as im concerned, they just took what was already a very nice spoiler, slightly modified it and are now making cash on it.

The rear bumper was more to add a diffuser, the diffuser its self is very nice, and im sure it wouldn't take much for them to sell the diffuser separately as a add on for the original bumper and offer it at a lower price, but they are in a business and there business strategy says that people will pay for a 89 spec bumper with lower sides and a diffuser, just for the diffuser.

Still prefer the 89spec, and i have to disagree, the 89 spec doesnt look dated. the paintwork or the overall condition of it makes it appear dated, get one with a spanking new paint job, or one thats been well taken care of, and it looks absolutely fine and upto date.

They do sell the diffuser seperatly, they have released pics and details and It will be avilable on Z1 soon. I was going to create a seperate thread for it, but here you go ;)

They also sell their bumper with and without diffuser, and have sold quite a few of the non-diffuser style. Its not just for the diffuser.

Im sorry you cant see the improvements, for me the changes make what is an ugly square after thought to a design that compliments and flows with the rest of the car.

Its not the brake light bulbs im talking about, its the entire unit. Would take a lot of work to turn it into a modern thin style led strip, and even if I wanted to do that sort of extensive work to the spoiler I still disklike the rest of it.

how can you honestly say the 89spec is square and a "after thought" spoiler?

?

The after thought spoiler is the 94spec table top.

the 89spec follows the lines very nicely

I honestly dont know how you cant see that its square and "after thought" looking. Yours pics show exactly what I mean perfectly. But I know a lot of people like it, and I know a lot of people dont, but the first thing I've done with all of my Z's is to remove the stock spoiler.

I prefer the 94-table top spoiler, although would'nt choose it myself.

I guess this thread is just going to turn into a "I love/hate the stock spoiler" thread now.

Yowser i think your seeing things, the twinz design one looks more square than the 89spec. honestly bud.

(andy, i did a google search for 300zx 89spec spoiler and it popped your photobucket page up LOL)

I will get the diffuser for my car as aoon as i can. I was going to buy a bumper and chop it up lol!!!!

As for the spoiler it is very nice, is it nicer than the 89 i dont know i think there just as good as each other tbh. the appeal for the new one is because its new and not many around imo

whats confusing, is - it IS a slightly modified 89spec. nothing special about it, yet yowser hates the 89spec, yet likes this one?

Its not that much different, just takes the 89spec, changes the break light, gives the edges a slight curve, and then squares off the rest.

do love the diffuser though. wondering if i could get a body shop to make it fit my wings west rear bumper.

Yowser, im not saying i hate it, i just cant see the point matey. no hard feelings or anything

yowser. once that diffuser is ready ill be stick one up my cars ass.

cant wait.

i think you will find comparing those 2 pictures, is like comparing the side of a zed, to the side of a bus.

Its all a matter of perspective

IMG_0045-1.jpg

as you can see, the rear 89spec spoiler has a curve to it, like the twinz, reasons is, because they have copied it.

I know, I know, I was being pedantic.

But I have a keen (fussy?) eye for design, and yes to most its too subtle perhaps, but to me its a modern interpretation on the original design.

As for not seeing the point, people are replacing their stock spoilers all the time with fibreglass replica's.......well here is another option that is an improved design imo.

lol, i was just being argumentative :devil2:

i know what your on about, the twinz does look good, and the fiber glass option is certainly an improvement over the original design.

think we might have to start up a group buy for that diffuse though.

I can see what Yowser is getting at, its quite subtle but does look better IMO.

Personally, I still haven't seen anything that I think looks as nice as the Tommy Kairai M30Z one though ;)

Bloody Hell!!!

Where's Harry Hill when you need him?!!

First of all let's all not get FACT confused with OPINION!! lol!!

How ever, here are the facts.... only kidding!

Like Yowser I am also a fan of design and appreciate subtle enhancements. The 89 spec was a great spoiler of the late eighties - HOWEVER - the majority of the zed's lines where way ahead of it's time - to a degree, timeless as are all great designs. So if you look at the two as individual items you can see where young Yowser is coming from - a 89 spoiler being stuck on (as most spoilers tend to be) a car that could have been designed 10 years later. Therefore as we look at the two designs now we see two different things. I'm pretty confident that the team that designed the cars lines didn't design the spoiler.

In defense of the 89 spoiler it does extend the lines of the rear a little and the straight line (from the rear) which does help the zed look wider. Also if you look side on, your eye follows the top of the spoiler which compliments the up sweep of the bottom of the bumper. The twinz one has that missing - this doesn't make it wrong, just different. They have made it look less stuck on from most angles.

For me, I kind of like the Z centre skin which is a compromise between the two.

:-)

Only ribbing you mate. (awaits :slap:) Do you want me to bring those wheels on the weekend? I reckon i can get them in the back of Pollys car..... if i remove the back seats

i like it ...i have gone with my wings west mid height only because i think the wide arch kit needs it for perspective balance ...if given the choice it would be 89 spec 3rd , twinZ 2nd and Kaminari 1st
