Hi guys.

After seeing my friends 300zx fairlaidy TT a couple of years ago and with the irretrievable breakdown of my marriage I have decided to take the plunge and buy one.

I have read the excellent buying guide on here but have some real simple questions:

Do all 300zx's have 4 seats? I am confused cause I have seen TARGA, 2+2, SWB etc.

Can soemone just simply explain the seat range for me please?

I specifically want a manual (although hard to find) or is there any benefits with an auto box?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

most are LWb which is a 2+2, The SWB is a 2 seater (SWB command a higher price)

Manuals are a little bit more expensive.

I loved the Autobox on mine..... Till it died!

Welcome to the club, and feel free to ask lots of questions, lots of good peeps on here mate who are happy to give good advice.

Good luck with the search.

Yep, 2+2 is exactly that (2 seats in the front and 2 seats in the back).

SWB only has front seats.

I used to struggle getting the kids car seats in the back of the zed (usually had to push the front seats forward quite a way) but others on here have found it ok.

ref the marriage situation, at least this way the zed (or any other car for that matter) can't be blamed for the breakdown, which can quite often be a big contributing factor

hope you enjoy the zed mate

go for lowest mileage/latest year twin turbo manual, but that's just my opinion of course

Easy bud,

Welcome to the fold :thumbup1:

Manuals are difficult to come by - I ended up driving 400 miles to collect my eventual purchase. But there are ways around the problem - a manual conversion is a tryed and tested path for many on this website and also gives you the best of both worlds: if you're unsure about which box to go for, you can sample the auto first and if you're still sure you want a manual, you can fork out the extra grand or so to have it done.

That said, if you're 100% confident only a manual will do, you may have to spend a little more time looking for the right car.

As for the seats, I gave my sister's two kids a ride in the back recently - the seats are pretty good for kids upto about 10-12. I've also had the sister in law in the back of the car (no, not like that) for about an hour and although she won't ever stand upright again, she has now managed to ditch the crutches!

Good luck with the hunt matey

Does your brother know about this?

fpmsl  Best quote on this forum for a while

If you want a luxury cruiser that's comfy and devastatingly quick a TT LWB Auto is your answer.

If you want a bit more control over the gears and plan on spending more time thrashing round the country lanes then a manual is your way forward.

I had a TT auto for 2 years and it was an absolute hoot, i did several track days manual shifting with overdrive off and it was great.

Who needs manuals!?! :)

Manuals aren't that hard to come by, but there are more Auto's around by far.

I would say stick to your guns and hold out for the right car, forget mileage as its largly irrelevant given how easy it is to clock.

The biggest factors (in my opinion) is condition and receipts to prove any claims of work carried out.

Buying off the forums is a good bet, as you can usually trace at least some of the history.

good luck with your search :)

Welcome to the club. As someone else said, I had to go a long way to get both of our cars, and both had/have their issues even then.

We actually spent an entire day, driving to Glasgow from Yorkshire, in 2 other Z's to pick another Z up, remove a manual gearbox, clutch etc. from yet another Z, so that when we got all three Z's back to Yorkshire, we could convert the new one from Auto to Manual :D

As for lowest mileage, newest reg, etc. all three of the ones in our house are 1989 and 1990, one UK model, 2 JDMs, one factory manual, 2 converted from auto to manual, I've got one, so has the missus (SexyCrayola on the forum) and so has our mate that lives with us (Mikey Bean on the forum) and we just love em.

Believe me, Z's make you do MAD things!
