Very sad we lost a cat the other day in a road accident. We still have 3 and now very reluctant to let them out.

Just Googling came across cat fences manual and electric ie like these

Fence type

conversion-fence.jpg

or electric type

anyone ever done this or know someone who has?

The electric one would be easy to install but not sold on if it would work and the fence type I like but would be a PITA to install plus secure every possible hole and would run into quite a few £££'s as quite a large rear garden.

Mate cats will still get over that! dont think you can ever keep a cat 100% safe these things happen im afraid :(

i agree with zx-tt you may as well save your money as cats will get out regardless. Just make it harder for them to get back in. My old cat had 2 homes, used to come home with new colliers and smelling of a log fire!

Not the answers I wanted

Your both right though. The one we lost was the least unlikely to get run over as always stayed away from the road. Our Ginger one is just a disaster waiting to happen.

Will have to try something though. First negative I thought was they would just get trapped on the wrong side of the fence.

I have to agree with other comments here, you won't keep a cat in if it wants to get out, besides, cats like to go hunt and forage, you can't deny them that :D My cat would be devastated if he couldn't bring home little mice and birds for me.

We lost one of our cats a few months back, and we have no idea how, he just turned up laid outside our front door in the running position, but on his side, eyes wide open, no sign of stress or impact or anything really. We can't decide if he was murdered or part of a horrible accident, or just had a heart attack or something. Spock (The one that died) was also the least likely to get into trouble or get run over etc. But then he did start bringing back whole rabbits, we're unsure whether they were pets or wild, as we live in the sticks, so could have been either, if it was a pet, then it may have been malicious :(

still tho, must be pretty hard to get over that fence due to it curving 90 degrees at the top with the chicken wire stuff

most cats are like ninjas and can do unbelievable acrobatics, they would likely climb it like a spider holding on upside down untill there over.

You could add a little voltage to stop that happening though !

This companies products do look professional quality

And have alot of good testimonials from UK customers, when you think about it there are lots of catteries and alike that must use similar setups that are 100% secure.

I could easily see this costing me £2K to do right as would also mean having new fencing put in as would be pointless fitting all the netting to my existing shagged fencing.

Im thinking a hell of a lot of Gourmet meat will stop them doing acrobatics :sneaky2:

So you're going to turn your cats in to little fat Garfields and electrocute them if they dare to try and escape, just to keep them alive? lol Quality of life is a phrase that springs to mind. :D

All jokes aside, I do understand the pain of losing one of the little buggers, tore my heart out when Spock died, but they need that bit of freedom and sometimes they don't come back/come back dead, it's just the way of things mate.

I would not try this as you might fry ya pussy :w00t:

nothing worse than a burnt pussy :hurl:

can't you make an enclosed run kind of thing ?
