When cold my car smells a bit of petrol, now I'm almost convinced i've got a leak somewhere but before I don the pith helmet and dive in is there somewhere I should concerntrate on?

The 2 places I have had recurring leaks are under the fuel regulator (or damper not sure which is which) on the top right of the engine and the short piece of pipe under the throttle cable pulley. This is a real pain to change as you have to take off the throttle bodies, actuator bar and cable pulley and really the cam cover and all that involves.

When it warms up the smell goes - it disappates with the heat but still there, I had similar problems, tightened up all pipes I could find.

 

If you want to locate it spinkle with a liberal dash of talc/cocaine around the pipes and run car cold, then check the talc/coke for smatterings of gasoline.

 

Most of the pipe clips under there can come loose, I'd get a good phillips screwdriver and a ten mill wratchet and check em all mate.

 

By the way Gio, there is some lovely filth down here dennis, on second thoughts lets not go to Camelot, tis a very silly place.

How did you become king, anyway?

Most likely to be pressure fuel regulator. Replaced mine at the weekend it had been happening a while and smell got increasingly stronger and stronger until major leak last week. Price £82.50 Inc vat at Nissan.
