I changed the oil and filter on my son's Pug 306 1.4 tonight and the oil filter disintegrated when I tried to remove it

How long has a paper element type oil filter got to be in a car before it gets to that stage - Jeez. He's only just bought the car - wonder what else is in store for us?

how meny metel rings u tuck out .. as i thought they should be about 3 or 4 holding the filter together ?

i would say thats way past its service date like 10k more ... or it was a very cheap one to start

Ooh, that doesn't look too good:w00t:

I hope a good oil and filter change is all it needs - in fact it might be prudent to do another oil and filter change after a few hundred miles just to flush out any remaining crap in the engine....

I used engine flush before the oil change to help with the clean up process. Hard to tell what "quality" the old oil filter was, it really did fall to bits when removing it.

The suggestion of a sooner rather than later oil change is a good one though.

Wonder when the cambelt was last changed..................if ever? - lol

Did you run the flush through the filter? I'd assume it's the chemicals in the flush that's done this?

The engine flush would not cause this but neglect would and did.

That filter has not been changed for a very long time, it's a marvel that it didn't start circulating round the engine
