ahh bugger - plus what to delete

new engine is here, so thought id get cracking on removing the EGR, anyway noticed that my turbo elbows had studs snapped with not enough on them to get a bolt on when it comes to putting the exhaust on.

So decided to remove the elbows while i was there, to replace with the ones of my current engine, the two nuts holding the elbow on at the bottom, came off easy on both sides, the two top bolts on both sides how ever, just snapped with little to no pressure being applied. so now the only way i have of securing the elbows is with the lower bolts.

Short of taking the turbos off and changing the housing over for the outlet and as im crap at drilling things out, what are my options? :( (PS although i have a drill, its a bit crap at the moment as the charger broke for it so i cant charge it up)

Also what can i safely remove from this side of the engine, it seems when reading it from the forum i understand what needs removing, but soon as i get to the engine, it all looks a bit confusing lol

got jeff sending me a new one lol, bugger, should of thought about borrowing that tool and getting it out and doing it.

Jimmer, any hints on what to do if i end up stripping the threads on these turbo housing while drilling these bolts out? what size tapping tool im going too need? also gotta find replacement bolts lol

Youll need a helicoil kit if the thread gets damaged,e bay sell them,m8 x 1,25 will sort it.as long as you get the studs out you should be able to fix the threads as long as you dont go past 6.8mm on the drill bits youll have the correct amount of metal left to recut a new thread with a tap.You must use a good drill bit and make sure its centered and well lubed whilst your drilling.dont use too much pressure as youll overheat the tip and blunt it.Do you have a B & Q near you ? iirc they sell m8 bolts and stuff like that.M8 X 1.25 X 30MM will be good replacements.

im drilling pilot holes really slowly and then using a drill bit that just fits the whole, first one that came out, must of left thread as the remaining nut came out like a tiny spring. but the threads look rusted through out the hole, so no wonder the bolt didn't give up too easily.

I had the same trouble with my tubs aswell, absolute knightmare! I had 4 tubs, two of which were knackered and the other two which I managed to snap the bolts off in them. I tried all the drilling, stud extracting stuff but just ended up snapping bits and stud extractors and making it worse! Had to swap the exhaust housings off in the end, Not bothering with studs in turbos again! lol
