Just spotted the latest issue of Max Power on sale in a service station advertised as the last ever edition.

So I bought a copy for nostalgia purposes....all I can say is what a pile of shite!

Any magazine that actively encourages speeding on public roads, dangerous mods on cars and generally displays an irresponsible attitude to its readers, should have been forced out of print a long time ago.

Just my personal opinion and not meaning to come across as a miserable old fart but I'm not surprised that it can't compete with genuine motor car magazines such as JP etc

Rant over....

Idiots is exactly right but there are some bold claims coming out of the Max Power clan.

The last time I bought Max Power (other than last night) was 1998 when it was all chopped springed 205's and piss heads in Tesco's car parks, now umpteen years on it's no change.

The only thing that I think of that they trail blazed is leading the charge on antagonising the Police (which anybody with a slightly modified motor has now reaped the benefit of) and higher insurance premiums.

It is what it is (a spring board for Nuts and Loaded magazine and a source of duff info)

Better off without IMHO

Max Power changed for the worse after the original editor left after about 3 years of publication, a chap called graham... can't remember his last name. But it definitely changed. It was a shame really, I used to enjoy buying max power and seeing how some obsessive had spent 20k on his mk3 escort! I think it celebrated car culture early on, its just a shame it associated itself with all that is wrong about it too.

I remember when Max Power went over to Japan and were reporting on the Midnight 300 club. That was my first real taste of Jap tuning etc and undoubtedly set the seed that is now bearing fruit. Back then, there was actually a little effort put into the reporting, not just 'look at the airbags on that!' type schit that we came to expect.

Also, we have Max Power to thank for Vicki Henderson Butler, without MP her career never would have got started!

I used to buy it in the 90s. Styling was subtle and the cars were decent (or i thought so at that age).

Then it seemed you had to have the biggest wheels and the maddest body kit. I stopped buying it then.

Its a bit if an icon mag, but it did go too far!

Had alot of dealings with Max Power over the years and is a shame to see it go but i think the modified car scene has moved on to bigger and better things now.

RIP Maxpower...

I occasionally picked a copy in the early days - but I agree with your comments 100% Jap.slapper...:hammer:

BAck in the late 1980s I bought FastCar fairly frequently; when they were into tuning Mk2 Escorts and Cortinas etc. I had a pretty cool Mk2 Opel Manta Berlinetta 1.9 and, with there being no interweb, it was the best place for tuning advice and suppliers. PMC being the main Vauxhall/Opel tuners of the day....

MaxPower was never as good and was, in my opinion, the whole reason FastCar went down the shitter as well - since it developed into the same format as Max.....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

i used to buy them all, max power, rev's, fast car and redline

all but redline went too chavvy and the cars featured were shite and from all over the world, i prefer to be this country specific

redline now is a great mag and if you havent bought a copy recently i would highly recomend it, dedicated to mainly tuning there is very little with lairy kits and massive install's, it really is very imformative

Ahhh Redline - didn't the editor of FAstCar jump ship and work there when Redline first came out? Fella with the nickname of "Renton" I think.......

Yes you're right mate; Redline was more about the cars and filled a void once Max and FC went down the chav route:lol:
