UK spec 300zx is blue tint, import is bronze tint. Make sure you get the right one or it'll look naff!!!! ;)

cheers guys,

430 was full fitting at home, as its drivable, driving it home 10 miles the crack doubled in length lol,

so i need bronze tint then

250 where's that from and is that fitted?

As baz says, Blue is for UK cars and easier to source, and most companies if going through your insurance will say that they can only get Blue glass, so if yours is jap spec, say that it needs the bronze one as thats what the car came with and stick to your guns on that.

If its a UK spec then blue it is and its far cheaper and less of a wait. but auto glass are rip off merchants to be honest. they quoted me £700 and £300 of that was for the side windscreen trims that i didn't need as mine already had them.

Shop around with local windscreen fitters to be honest mate as long as you dont mind having blue glass, expect to pay around £200 to £250 is what id call reasonable, the one i had fitted to my black zed (blue glass as it was UK spec) i paid £216, that was fitted with vat as well, but bear in mind, VAT was 15% at that point.

Expect to pay more for bronze glass, and wait some time for it too arrive, as it has to come from japan.

Most windscreen places, such as national glass, auto glass quoted me £1800 for bronze tint glass!!!

Won't your car insurance cover it?

Last time I had a windscreen replaced (not a Zed) £70.00 excess was all that I had to pay :confused1:

Your insurance company should cover the replacement cost, less your windscreen excess (usually £50 -£80) without affecting your NCB.

So why the worry about the cost of the screen?

you still got your breaker? can you get it removed from there?

I've got a decent bronze tint in my breaker?

  • Author

yeah still have the breaker, have asked them they are calling me back tommorow, they seemed to think it wouldn't be possible as it could crack while being removed, still quoted 130 for that though

Yeah its certainly possible that it would crack on removal but they gotta say that to cover their backs in case it does. A novice would almost certainly break it but a windscreen company are the best shot to get your one removed, but may be worth trying to find a small windscreen company locally see how much they'd charge.

We have had many front screens removed from breakers by a local windsceen company once the trims are stripped out they get the screen out in 15mins or 20 mins to remove and refit into another car they charge around £120. but they can supply and fit a new blue one for around £245.

Last summer I had a similar thing happen with regard to mysterious cracking, if you search back at my threads you will find my experience.

For now all I will say here is that mine's is not NISSAN it is a Pilkington copy I am very happy with it.

just called a few companies all around 300+ then a mate a work recommended one..., now all in for blue glass... £165 really happy with that..

they couldn't get bronze but still means i can afford it and the rest of the MOT work...

thanks for the help everyone.

I remember getting quotes for my old beemer (crazily wasn't covered after getting fully comp business insurance through a crap company online!) Quote went down from £1200-odd to £340 once I explained that my insurance wouldn't cover it... just shows how much they take the piss!!
