Im restoring a mk2 rs2000 custom in my workshop atm wonder what thats worth when its finish :biggrin:

Seriously rare, and will go for that and some easy. I sold my old Mk2 RS2000, for £2k, Then i sold my old Lotus sunbeam, wish i had kept them both....

Would be worth plenty now

Although I hated them in the 1980s when I was growing up; as they were the equivalent of a "chav" car that we all take the piss out of today.

 

But now that all the kids back then crashed them into trees, only the good ones are left - so it's cool to like the old Capris, Escorts and Cortinas that filled the streets when I was a boy!!

I had a mk 2 1300 sport that i started to restore as a teenager,well i fell off the tracks then and me ole man binned it.Im gutted as they were rare then.the 1600 sport was common in its time but the 1300 was very rare,not rs 1800 rare but still would have made decent money now.it was almost at the paint stage but i never touched it in the end.Had a full SD cage,Rs brakes.modded engine,bucket seats and harnesses.god i wish id completed that car.

Jeez a guy across the road from me has a genuine RS2000 with the Ford X pack box arches , was a barn find in Ireland it,s was last on the road about 20 years ago , in black , needs a little tidying but he,s got it MOT,d !!!

Im sorry but the mk2 escort could never be called "shit".The most rallied car in history and prolly the most influential rally car of all time.Its still used in vast numbers by clubman and is the historic rally drivers choice of car for a very good reason.It may have been flawed in some ways but no more so than any other 70,s car.

agreed you only have to go watch a rally and see what finishes, pretty much all teh escorts seem to, alot of other stuff disappears along the way. what you have to rember though is that these rally and track cars a re far removed from the ones that where in the road. alot of them have ditched there leaf sprung rears in favour of coil springs on the back and linkages to the diff, which is no longer there. because they where shite lol. my old ford came with 4 inch wide wheels and leaves on the back taht twisted and moved latterally though the corners. once it had 7" wide rubber all round and a few trick linkages etc it was a completly different animal.

 

i think you have to rember these are now a historical icon, and that they can quickly and fairly cheaply become little track monsters.
