Realising that it is still all down to personal preference / sound quality et al does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can replace my speakers with / install into the Zed to get a decent bass sound?

My rear nearside speaker cone has blown and is irritating me intensely listening to the twanging of an elastic band noise over my music.

So :

a) what can I replace it with that doesn't take up the entirety of the boot space and

b) how do I get decent bass without forking out too much?

I have a decent Kenwood stereo, so am not looking to change that.

Ideas anyone?

Me again!! (ain't folloing you honest!)

I have recently bought;

mStation MP3 player - ties in with pioneer headunit I already have.

4x 165mm 2-way blasters (200w) - For the door cards.

2x 10" subwoofers (350w) - For the rear.

2x 'tweeters' (150w) for the door cards also.

I need to purchase an amp, I know where to get a good one for a good price too!

I know a top bloke that will build you a box, that fits nicely into the gap just behind the rear seats and doesn't take up loads of boot space (still have to put shopping in mine!) and when the car is parked up the speakers cannot be seen as the rear cover, covers it! biggrin.gif

I don't like the music very loud but I like to blast my eardrums one and a while but I like to listen to the quality and the clearness of the music, I am hopeing this set up givs me that.

If you want to get the same speakers as me I will tell you were to get them from, how much and trust me it's a great deal!!

Its a powered Pioneer sub woofer. Just fits under the blind as it's only 10cm dia. Dab of Velcro and connectors in the lead and you can whip it out if you need the boot space for any reason.

Model ref is TS-WX105A.

Cost me around £120. In one of the pics you can also see the little dual cone Kenwoods which were a nice change to the cardboard sh*t in there before. Model ref KFC4625C about £45

Up front there is a pair of JBL something or others around £90. All this lot is driven by an ancient Sony head unit / CD 25w x 4 I think.

Not up to tooley's standard (or Matty's) but nice enough for the money biggrin.gif

If you're ever down this way (between Slough / Heathrow), bring your favourite CD and have a play. (Offer only good during pub opening hours wink.gif )

Hey, my very own stalker - Hi Matty! biggrin.gif

Matty - is your backseat still able to fold down should the need arise with that setup? Do you have any pictures of what they look like? Should carrots ever be mixed with sweetcorn? Answers on a postcard to.... smile.gif

Mike - not often down Sluff way, have to admit, but if ever I am, then I feel a test of AfroCelt would be in order! biggrin.gif

As far as bass and mid range is concerned first forget all about the silly little speakers in the back.Having had a couple of very big systems in the past in my present zed I went for a more subtle approach and the best decision by far was to put 6"x9" in the front doors and the same again in the rear. run the rear ones off the head unit and the fronts off a decent amp of at least 250 watt. Then add a second amp for a sub box or tube in the rear. By using amps with all the crossovers built in it saves on wiring and space. Now I have a good clear system sound with pleanty of undistorted volume and bass if I want it. As the bass box has quick release it can be taken out if need be in 10 seconds etc.

Cost is around £300 for the lot inc monster cables, dare I say it check out my site.

Vijay,

It's a bit difficult to see form the photo, but how does that affect the spare wheel cover - do you have to make new, or will the old ones still fit?

Cheers

Anita
