Hey Guys,

I am planning a one week trip to scotland in july to relax and enjoy some serious scenary. So please anyone whos been there and has seen some breathtaking places please let me know. I am planning to go all over the scotland, including highlands, the border and the cities. Mainly looks for amazing scenic places!!

Any advice on locations and activities would be really great!!!

Heard of the Geopark, anyones got more info on this?? Can you just drive through this area and enjoy the scenes? I am after more of driving around seeing scenes, heritage and beaches etc nothing extreme tbh.

Btw driving a 9 seater there, would i have any problems?

Cheers jap, Is this part of the geopark bit? as i am still confused as to how i would get to these places. On the website it says you can just drive through most areas??

up to a place called applecross is meant to be really nice check the acottish section some guys done a run last year. Could even get a meet somewhere with all us one day if you fancy it

would really love to arrange a meet, depends on how everything works out though. Still need to plan a lot of it.

My parents live just outside of Aberfeldy, which is a very pretty area. Anywhere north of Perth on the A9 and it starts to get more spectacular. Then of course you have the Cairngorms which are very impressive. The west coast is simply stunning, but the driving can be a little difficult on single lane roads. I think you're spoilt for choice really bud - maybe look at some of the tourist sites and see what tickles your fancy. When I take a trip up at the end of this month, my plan is to drive all the way up Glen Shee - I went snowboarding there last winter and thought to myself that the Zed needs to do this road. SO it will - about 10.30 in the evening, just as the sun is below the horizon with the roof tops off and the exhaust playing my favourite tune!

Well one of the passengers is pregnant, so was not looking to do anything extreme at this time. More of driving around seeing scenes and beaches. More of a site seeing trip!

@Leo that sounds perfect :), planning to do a trip hopefully in august again with just friends so that we can undertake some serious activites

Stirling for historic monuments, Edinburgh for arty fart pish & Glasgow for its live music scene. Head up Loch Lomond side to Oban, Glen Coe, play about a bit with all the touristy stuff, Cruachan Dam, etc.

Plenty of stuff to do, checkout the "visit scotland" website.

Truly spoiled for choices lol, i need to clam down as all these places are so damn stunning!! :D. Also heard inverness is a really nice place too??

Anyone have any info on how the geo park wrks? as from the website makes it look like you can just drive and see the places??

Arriving from the south, the gateway to the Geopark is Ullapool which is just over an hour's drive from the Highland capital of Inverness on the A835. Travelling via Dornoch and Lairg you will arrive in the Geopark via the single track road A837 to Ledmore Junction then south west on the A835. Another option from Lairg is to take the single track A838 to Achfary and Laxford Bridge which will bring you into the Geopark by way of the parish of Eddrachilles. From here you can explore north or south. Travelling from John O’ Groats along the north coast or by famous Strathnaver, you need to take A836 which will bring you along the shores of Loch Eriboll in the parish of Durness.

Going from london i wont be any good with the road up there lol!

I think i dont have enough time to see all this, damn, if you had one day in highlands were would you go? !

Of the places I've been I absolutely love Pitlochry and surrounding areas even if its just for the views up "Queens view" they hold Highland Games up that way every year (not sure when).

Could i stay in inverness and travel to ben nevis, and other area nearby for the day??

@cheer zero will have a look into that too.

Absolutley the best time will be had, but you'll need more than a week, I went with the intention to start at Edinborough and work my way up the east coast, apart from a days ride up to St Andrews visiting a few fishing villages on the way we stayed in Edinborough for a week and still didnt see it all.

The friendliest people around...do it and enjoy :)

Yeah i know but i am going with friends in the near future and that would be for more than a week. However right now we will be spending more time at the scotish border with family and doing a lot of activities, but have a couple of days to explore before that :). So need something completely stunning and yet possible.

I am really liking ben nevis, looks amazing.

Haha great, thanks mate. i was looking for a good place to stay.

If you're only visiting for a day, (you need much longer BTW!), go M6->M74->A7(orA702)->Forth Bridge(A90)->M90->A9. Stay night in Inverness.

Then A82 through Fort William, (at this point I'd recommend a drive up to Mallaig, but I don't think you've got time), Glencoe and Crainlarich and follow the road through Glasgow and take signs for the M74/Carlisle.

I did from the FRB all the way round and back in about 8 hours one night 'cos I was bored so an overnight is well within the realms of doability.

HTH

you need to try loch lomond for nice scenery and some touristy stuff

then you need to hit applecross for the driving experience...the sign says it all......

Wow....All that scenery looks stunning! This looks like one road trip everyone has to do in their lifetime! I would guess you would need 2 or 3 weeks to get most places in and to enjoy/relax etc. What a fabulous country :) (We do have some nice scenery in Wales too though )

yea wales is pretty nice aswell, the applecross run is the 1 to go for !, possibly the best road in europe id say, that picture is just 1 tiny section..its miles and miles long

to be honest anywere in scotland out with cities and big towns is excellent driving country, but applecross is meca
