Guest HollowPoint Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Well this is my feeble attempt at painting some parts for myself, just to trim them up a bit nicer and try to stem some rust. First the discs I bought from Liam months ago and still haven't fitted to the car, that is being rectified atm though with the suspension being fitted etc. Then the suspension that Mikey (As in Shrek Mikey) sent me the other week, now finally going to be fitted to the car. These are Tein Type HR coilovers, which I've read are pretty good, if a little old. Eventually I'll replace these with some brand new ones, but I needed to get the crappy ****ed up ones off my car quick. Then finally, the rears of the same set, which are unpainted, to be fair, regardless how crap of a job I'm doing, they definitely look better poorly painted than rusty :D Don't slate me too much, I'm no picasso! Baz Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 nice bit of freshening up there alex, cant believe the state of those teins, mine were a perfect green finish when I fitted them, I daren't look now lol  Quote
Guest HollowPoint Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Yeah I looked them up, apparently they're appalling for rust. :( Went over them with a wire brush (Yet to do that on the rears as you can tell) then some Hammerite Kurust stuff, which gives a nice black undercoat, then Hammerite straight to rust paint. Coming up ok, just wish I had learned to stay within the lines as a child :S Quote
groover Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Nobody is ever really going to seem them bud, so i wouldnt worry too much about the finish, they will get caked in crap before long and any protection of the metal is going to help. Its nice to do some bits yourself and get that feeling of satisfaction. Quote

Indeed, painting is usually Roses thing, she paints car interiors etc. (Yes mine is on her agenda to do, after she's done hers though :() Being a graphic designer, it's in her blood to do it. Just like to do things myself some times like you say. Mechanically speaking I do most of it myself, apart from bits I seriously don't have the equipment for or bits I REALLY don't want to do, lol. zerocooldel Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 my teins that i got from andy werent as bad as those but still needed a clean up i sanded all mne smooth before painting came up really good. yours are looking miles better than when you got them worth doing mine Quote
Guest HollowPoint Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Cool, are yours type HR as well? I thought about spending the time smoothing them all the way down, and decided not to bother, since for me it's mostly about rust removal, protection and cleanliness for a short period of time. Doubt I'll be able to sell them on (Although you never know I suppose) when I'm done with them and have new ones, etc. etc. etc. Looks like a nice job on yours though. Quote
zerocooldel Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 yeah think they are the same ones as you. to be honest when they are fitted you can see thyem a bit but you have to be looking for them Quote
paulbrem Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 It is heartbreaking when you look at shocks and anti roll bars that you got new, and after a few years looks like ships anchor. Quote

Guest HollowPoint Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 Well, thanks to Mikey coming round today, they are all fitted now, and most of the rest of the car is in bits, got the cam belt off, anyone who's done that will know what that entails, got lots of the MOT failure bits done, car is up on 4 axle stands now, will change out the rear suspension this week when I finish painting it, fit some of my other parts like rear strut brace, turbo timer, get the plenum powder coated etc, then off to the mechanics to have new sills welded on and MOT'd :D Simple as that sounds it might take me 3 weeks cos we really have stripped a LOT off the car today, some pics to follow in the morning when I can be arsed to get them off the camera, off for a bath now, then an early night, lol. CHEERS MIKEY!!!!!! Quote
Guest HollowPoint Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 I still can't believe you think the car looks ace in bits, lol, I think it looks horrid, I WANT MY CAR BACK! lol I didn't sing, you did, a lot! :D Quote
