Spent months welding and grinding rust of my zed, only removed side skirts to put back to standard look, never realizing what lied beneath.

manged to find a guy who supplied most of new panels to repair.arches iner sills outer sills and rebuilt sub frame that was rotted.

I found that the steel pip running from the roof gutters was blocked through rust and this coursed most of the on the inner sills and sub frame,so after the rebuild i replaced both pipes with stainless steel onces so they want rust again.

Nasty nasty, good luck with repairs; good to hear that you are going to repair and not scrap. Let us know of your progress.

Never tried anything like this before, was quite rewarding when finished but if i wasn't a welder by trade i wouldn't of tackled this.

After all the rust was gone and panels welded car was under-sealed and waxed oiled.

Then of to the body shop for respray.

good to see its being fixed. ive been doing exactly the same on mine. I removed my skirts to find a total mess, what started as a small 2" rust hole, soon developed from the wheel arch to the drivers door.

All cut out now and replaced. just a few more bits to sort.

If a zed can be saved, then save it. Far to many being just scrapped for these reasons.

to be honest i think most zeds will have this rust even if you cannot see it yet tehy will be rusting from the inside out, unless its a fresh import of course

congrats, this does seem to be the most common falut point. and i can see myself doing that over the coming years... did you fab the panels yourself?

so where did the repair sections come from then? buy or self made, i only as because i recon im gonna be going down this area myself in teh next year or so. and i expect to find wprse than better because im a cynic. my mate is a porsche restoer and ive done a fair bit of welding myself, so taht doesnt worry me just teh parts

I done both sides of my car rust was really bad, done plates both sides that I made my self but I bought inner sills and outer sills of a guy on eBay. I done the work over six months so on some photos work is not complete, after welding was done the car was taken to body shop for prepping and stone chip, thanks for your comments guys I'll post some pics when painted.
