Just thought I would update you guys on how my uni-chip ecu upgrade is performing. Unfortunatley since my Zed has had this installed it is not what I would call 100%. To be fair it has made a hell of an improvement on the performance, as soon as the car reaches 3500 RPM it certainly forces you in the seat!!. The change it made in the speed is quite impressive. HOWEVER, it has made it run considerably rougher and does not idle as well as it did before the upgrade. It is very had to determin if this idle problem is down to the chip or to the other upgrades made after the chip was installed ( e.g. stright through exhaust ). I think I will give it a few more weeks and maybe look at an alternative such as a JWT upgrade. Just out of interest how did you guys find you JWT when you had it installed?

Did it make much differnece to performance?

When you order it do you have to specify any existing upgrades such as Induction Kit or Exhaust? How easy is it to install? Any help on this would be gratefully recieved!!. All I can add about the unichip is get as much info as you can before you purchase, perhaps I have just been unlucky!. Right time to down some beer and drown my sorrows.

Have a nize weekend guys!!

the problem you are having might not be the chip, but the programmer....

not everyone knows how to use software to the same standard, some people are better than others....

Have you contacted Unichip themselves and asked who they recommend in the UK ?

Out of interest, who did you use ?

Sorry you iZ having probs with your CPU upgrade m8:(

BTW

Where do you sink the sherbets on the IW...I'm going to be on the Wight Sunday thru Thursday and I still haven't got myself a Zed... was wondering if you ever get to the Crown in Ryde.. maybe we could have a beer and a chat:)

All the bezt

i think it needs to be mapped properly as it should in theory be a better option than JWT as a performance chip.

You have so many more options to go through(on a unichip)

Hi All!

It is difficult to say what is causing this idle problem. The firm that did the unichip upgrade is a registered dealer and to be fair to them they ARE good at what they do. I must say again that it could be something else other than the upgrade taht is causing the fault!. I remember Craig that you expressed interest in getting a unichip upgrade. Don't let this put you off, it has made an amazing change in performance. And as Warren has said it can offer more than a lot of other upgrades on the market. Maybe I need to give it more time and check any other problems it may be.

BTW Glen I live in Ryde, give me a shout at work on Monday ( 10962 866144 ) and we can arrange a time.

Hi Simon,

Did you get a dyno report after you had your Uni-chip fitted? After looking at the Uni-chip web site the power gain graphs were quite good. It would be interesting to see the results for a Z32.

See ya,

Trev

Unichips have proved very succesfull on a wide range of cars the same company that make them also do engine management systems with fantastic results, BUT i do know when i was looking to purchase one nearly a year ago 2 companies advised me not to, they are in some way connected within the circuit for coil or distributors and as the Zed has 6 coil packs the Unichip is not supposed to be entirely compatible, they'll work, just not 100% which might be the source of the problem here. Anyone thinking of buying one please ask Ian at Hiteq first.

If the chip acts as a stand alone upgrade (i.e. straight swap for standard) then there is no way that it should affect the idle. There is no benefit in changing the factory settings at very low revs.

The chip essentially controls timing & fuelling based on engine revs, throttle position and air flow. Given what it's based in, you only need to make performance enhancements at high revs, high throttle position and high air flow. If a programmer has altered low settings (i.e. low enough to affect tickover) then they've made a mistake in my humble opinion.

BUT I think it's unlikely and, as suggested by yourself and others, my first thought would be on other mods. My first check would be for any air leaks anywhere.

I agree with Dave, but it could be that the chip was programmed for bigger injectors (555's or 720's)...or the other way around..the chip was programmed for smaller injectors then you have in your car.

This would almost certainly affect idle.

I'm not familiar with the UNI-chip and I don't know if they also have setups for different injector-sizes like the JWT-chips, but if they have I would make sure you have the right program for the size injectors in your car.
