Silverstone are running their own open track days and have 2 planned on the International Circuit. (which is the old Southern circuit with newly built/refurbished pit & paddock areas. Supposed to be pretty nice. )

 

Saturday June 18th

Friday July 15th

 

£299 per car & Driver. £60 for an additional Driver. price includes Breakfast/Lunch and around 7 hours of open track in an open pit lane format. There will be up to 40 cars there on the day.

20 minutes of Driver training goes for £20.

 

I know sounds pretty pricey, but it's Silverstone... I'm fairly limited as my Car is Trailer-only / SORN now... so as it's close, I'm there.

 

I've posted this on a few forums, If there is enough interest, we might get some sort of discount. Regardless I'm planning for the 18th.

I've got a surpluss of track day Camera's + mounts... so we should be able to get some good Follow-cam / chase cam style footage on selected laps. if there is interest.. :)

My car will still be SORN'd but not in a good way I'm afraid, potentially might be back on the road by July, but couldn't commit.

I'll be up for that so count me in. Be nice to get a few zeds together on track :)

whats the tyre damage like after a day on the track are u looking at a new set by the end of the day? was watching it at llandow circuit last sat (only £80) looks scary!

I'm on holiday for the Jun date but July could be an option. Seems expensive though, most open pit days seem to be int he 150-200 per day bracket.

Hi Curley. I've found that with reasonable driving a track day isn't too bad on tyres.. i.e. it's not s set a day etc. if I started with new tyres I'd expect to get 5day+ out easily.

 

If you stick to racing lines and stay away from getting sideways.. have the right pressure in your tyres etc. You'll find they look a it sticky at the end of the day and probably a Mil or 2 at an extreme (on edges) down.

 

I've got extra sets of alloys, tyres for my cars and have taken a set out before with the explicit intention of wearing them down to the point of binning the tyres afterwards... always dissappointed how little I destroyed them, even though I tried very hard.

It depends on the tyre. If you look at the Toyo R888 for example you'll find that there is minimal depth tread. If you have a full tread tyre you can risk ripping the carcass from it (and yes I have experienced that). I've been told that there is a machine that 'buffs' tyres to prevent this happening. That being the case, you'd be OK with a set of part worn tyres with maybe around 5 mm tread as long as they're still serviceable anyway :)

Well I've booked my place for the June event. Anyone else fancy taking the GT3's on?? Actually it's difficult enough beating a Clio on track but I do like to set my sights high lol.

somthing i would love to do but its just a bit too short notice for me or i would jump at it. if only i had the money:cry:
