HI

OK I just got hold of a 300ZX TT

This is my second one, I had the first for 30 months until I had a bit of an 'incident' in it :hammer:

The other one had a lot of body customisation - this one is more standard but has some engine mods

OK so this one has amongst other things an HKS EVC boost controller that were not on my first one, plus some other upgrades I believe.

Now when I bought it the guy said the boost controller and dump valves were not working (said his kids had messed with the settings on the HKS box at the weekend while he as valetting the car)

Seeing as the car sounded and felt just as good as my first, and seemed if anything to be a bit faster I was happy enough to take the car though he said it 'really missed' the boost and wasn't running anything like when it worked

Anyway having got the car 35 miles to home - all fine - I took it out again and now for some reason it was running miles better I can only say the boost and dump valves were working with the fact it was going like a fire breathing monster!

And remember I've had a Zed before so I know how these cars normally drive. Also the dump valves must be OK cos you didn't half get a 'whumph' sound when changing up gear

OK so I'm belting around really enjoying this - then suddenly no whumph on gear change and the car drives again like my first Zed.

Since then It's been a bit intermittent - going between normal Zed fast at times and scary monster fast at others

OK so I guess - did his kids mess with the settings (the other guy claims to know nothing about how to set up the HKS) or am I right in thinking that there is some sort of intermittent fault here? The readout thing on the HKS works all the time but I can't really make head nor tail of what it is trying to tell me

Either way - I love this HKS when it is working properly, it makes a huge difference. any ideas or is this a job for the pros?

sounds like you should take a trip over the A50 to Zed world.. Let them suss whats what with it. Think it costs about 35 quid or thereabouts for a conzult and you will also get the rest of the car looked over

HI Yes

Oh OK Know Jeff and Zedworld - used to take my other one there - just thought I would ask here with this boost control not being standard kit

cheers

PS

Will post some pics

It could be the cause - or it could be a smoke screen.

My guess is it was the latter. But also sounds like it could be a simple fix - if the problem is intermittent, then obviously it can work properly. I have no experince of boost controllers other than a few cars I test drove - but I would definitely like one :scared:

Thanks m8

Like I said without the boost the car runs at least as well as my previous one if not better

The fact it can work, even if a bit temperamental makes me also feel there can't be too much wrong.

If the damn boost thing hadn't kicked in for a while today I wouldn't have known what I was missing - it drives like A zed should - but now I know the difference I feel compelled to get it working properly

It could just be a loose connection.

When I had my skyline, I drove for 3 months in bloody winter with no warm air because of a loose connection on my heater solenoid. Imagine how pissed off I was when the guy wiggled the wire and it all started working fine :censored:

Loose connection could be in the engine bay somewhere though - so good luck on that one - hope you've got small hands!

Just as an update

I fired her up this morning and the boost controller was working fine, in fact I've run her round quite a bit today and everything worked without a problem

Maybe something was just 'stuck' with the car not having run for a while?

I haven't dared pressing that scary looking 'scramble' button on the HKS yet though. It was suggested I got used to the car a while (its been a couple years since my last Zed) and make sure I am on a straight road first.... :tongue_smilie:
