A guy called wozzer had it on his na. Apparently made good power but his engine blew all over the road one day but don't think it was directly related to the nos more the rpm the engine was at the time! But I wouldn't do it unless you have a forged bottom end and you get it setup fuelling wise perfectly on the rollers. Slick Pete is fitting it to his race engine iirc so may be worth asking him. He did say tho to avoid the plastic piped kits and go for proper hard lines !

I looked into this and decided not to do it.. It looks like an easy way to boost power - but as stated, the effects of Nos on an improperly prepared engine can be catastrophic.

If you want to run nos you will need to fit forged pistons and lower the compression ratio with thicker gaskets. If you don't then you run the risk of detonation - melted pistons.

Then you have to choose which method of injection you want (wet, dry, ported etc). Then consider how much power you are looking for. 100hp nitrous kits deliver 100hp instantly - it doesn't build boost like a turbo, its just suddenly there (power graph goes vertical). Which is fine for track applications but not so great on a public road.

I was looking for another 50hp for as cheap as poss. In the end I decided I'd have to rent the girlfriend out and save enough money to do the job properly.

Nitrous can be run on these engines, but to do it safely you still need to spend a lot of money.

thanks everyone, in a nut shell , sod that , anyone got any brighter ideas than my own for upping BHP, i currently have chipped ECU, HKS filter, Mongoose exhaust, i am not removing the Cats due to the horror stories of Turbos becoming knackered sooner rather than later. so what options do i now have .. thoughts gents

Thats it in a nut shell - you've done the things that free up the easiest horses to find. Only thing left to do is up the boost. But again, you should exercise caution. Many people run upto and beyond 14psi on stock tubs (1bar). But if the injectors aren't uprated then you could have detonation issues again, from the engine running too lean at the top rpm.

Best thing is a moderate increase in boost coupled with some uprated SMICs. Make sure that you get it mapped safely once you've fitted the boost controller and you should be getting around 400 bhp - how long it will last is anyone's guess.

First things first - get the car thoroughly checked over by a specialist.

Many incorrect comments here. Using a progressive controller means that it isn't instant boost but come in 'progressively' :) Hard pipes like Pete's does require a minimum (I think) of 150 shot. I have got NOS and have been using it regularly haven't blown engine yet. Admittedly I do have strong engine internals however, mine is controlled by the AEM ECU and doesn't kick in until at least 80 mph and only works in third fourth and fifth gear 'and' is progressive. I am only running 1 bar of boost currently as there are a myriad of problems that can arise from that too. Done correctly NOS is an equally valid performance enhancement as turbos or increasing boost IMO. Look at Wizards of NOS for your answers.

No disrespect Bob, but your engine is a bit different to a 70k early nineties motor running 50hp+ nos system. You've spent more building your engine than many people have on their entire cars.

What will the main problem be if you increase boost more than 1 bar?

As Hellraiser says, up your boost. The difference between stock (9.5psi) and the safe max on stock internals (say, 14.5psi) is pretty darn noticeable!!!!

Yes it's true I have spent a lot of money on my engine but that isn't the point. Some of the comments about NOS are simply untrue and I think it's better to get the facts. Best place for facts are those who have done it not those who knows someone who knows someone whose done it :) Go to wizards of NOS website and get some facts. Then talk to Dan (see below) and he will give an informed opinion. And I imagine he's blown a few engines up getting that opinion but so far not mine lol.

Bob who set up your AEM ?? sorry for the thread hijack

Old wives tale.

Chop em off.

Decat it and run a bar.

Mines running 16psi, and is a totally different animnal to how a standard zed is!

Well said, you don't need a forged engine to run NoS.Bad set-up is to blame for most blow ups!:ninja:
