Right, so looks like im getting blow back from piston ring failure by the sounds of it, but would of though that oil in the intake wouldn't make it down as far as the turbos pipes exiting from the turbo, due to the high flow of air coming from the intercooler? or am i just looking at a PCV valve change?

Basically there is a lot of oil in the lower set of turbo pipes, and also in the ones going to the throttle bodies. no doubt the reason its smoking from idle and when rev'ed.

with the balance bar removed, there is like a nice puddle of oil sitting in the plenum. am i looking at replacing the piston rings? or could it be due to the PCV valves.

timing is also off by 10 degrees, would the ECU advance the timing that much? or shall i just set it properly with the CAS (though no doubt the damage has already been done)

possible turbo too matey. if 1 is leaking oil into the inlet you will get a build up of oil in there. but fingers crossed its just pcv:)

Well engine would have to come out for the turbo change, so if its piston rings, i suppose i may as well change the buggers.

Ill get the passenger side pipes off tomorrow and have a check, but doubt its going to make much of a difference. would of thought the rear seal would go before the front one.

Basically it smokes from start and when you rev the engine (though not good with just 5 cylinders working)

It doesnt really smell of oil out of the exhaust though, and i cant tell what turbo is smoking if any, as there is a balance bar in the middle.

doesnt smoke when on a run though? which i would of thought it would with ring failure.

Bugger, took the car down my mates garage and got a cylinder scope on it, piston 6 is showing a nice 5p sized hole in it. which is why its not firing, took the spark plug out this morning and it was caked in oil and petrol, so changed it for a known working one, and that just got caked as well, so limped it down to my mates garage. and found that out.

New engine time for a zed now. but on a plus side, at least i now know why cylinder 6 wasn't working

So i suppose det causes pistons to fry, strange as it was only the other day someone was asking about pistons and if they are forged or not

gutted for ya mate :( if only you had a spare engine! Should really get mine checked before it goes back in, I'll have to ask around if anyone has a borescope round here.

that's how mine was when I bought it mate, although I was told it had only blown the tub oil seals.... All re-built now tho :)

Yep and 9 times outta 10 it should be no.6 piston too.

Good luck mate

well i suppose you cant always trust an ebay add, no mention of smokey turbos, or smoke of any kind, and although the add says "new engine from 47k miles" with a printed out bought ebay page, there was no paper work to say the engine had even been changed.

im wondering if the turbos are really gone. will get them off the engine when its removed and have a check. need to remove all the shiney stuff off it, plus will be handy when putting the new engine in, as it can have a few deletes and by passes done.

So not to worry lol

it is quite possble that shrapnel from the piston could've gotten into the turbo and damaged it, but I jope your lucky and they're ok, and yeah, at least you can do other things before fitting your new engine, and you'll know it's all good...

well friday, ill rip the engine and gearbox out. get the engine bay cleaned up and start on the Auto to manual conversion, at least with the engine out of the way, it will be easier to fit the clutch cylinder and route the new clutch lines.

im actually excited LOL

are you gonna rebuild your block .? if so are you going stock or forged pistons. reason why i ask is that i have a couple of spare stock pistons if you need one

I would love to rebuild it, but with limited space, as i have 2 breakers, its a bit of a mission, if i can get my black car off to the crushes and get a new engine in, ill quite happily do a rebuild but with uprated parts. at the moment though, looking at the only real option i have, which is to source a replacement engine.
