yes, diameter on 235-45-17 is (17" +2(235*45%)) = 643.3mm

and on 225-50-17 is (17" +2(225*50%)) = 656.8mm

Therefore with the 50 profile tyres the speedo will be underreading slightly as you'll travel further with each wheel rotation, but since most speedos overread by 5-10% you'll probably be closer to your actual speed.

I know, was just pointing out the stock outside diameters as ideally you would want to stay as close to them as possible.

225/50/17 is 25.4mm larger than stock.

It may be fine, but keep an eye out to be sure.

As for speedo reading, I don't think it will be affected as the reading comes from the rear wheels/gearbox as far as I am aware.

Personally I'd say no. Stock is 225/50/16 so going up to 17 inch wheels should ideally be 225/45/17.

But some of us go a little wider with the 235/45/17 combo with no major issues; however 225/50/17 will make the rolling circumference too different rom where it's meant to be.

And whilst some have said that it really only matters on the rear wheels, remember that both front and rear should be as close to each other too; in order to keep the ABS sensors in tune with each other.

Just my opinion though.....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
