Hey Guys,

I was wondering what you guys think of the two models compared to 300's. Over performance, reliabilty and potential? Ofc also the rotary engines!

Cheers!

The RX7 and the RX8 are like chalk and cheese anyway, one is a fast lightweight awesome car with an epic engine and great handling.... the other is a slow GT car with a thirst for oil and ALOT of petrol

RX& - Great car, I would love one some cool special editions, one model came with adjustable ride height as standard how awesome is that!) However need a rebuild every 5 minute, and not the most reliable of motors.

RX8 - Two choices of engine, neither are turbo both burn a shit load of oil both are pretty slow. Not a great looking car IMHO and really a bit of an insult to the legendary RX7

Yeah heard about the oil burning part well 231 bhp aint that bad tbh, what about relaibilty when buying a second hand one??

I am mainly condiering a rx8 for a fast run around!

MPG is the worst part of them. 18mpg ive heard on the not very quick Rx8. 13mpg on the Rx7 in standard form!

RX7 = AWESOME car highly likely to get you laid

RX8 = POS car highly likely to get you laughed at

wow that is horrundous MPG, when i checked most people kept saying they get about 25-30.

@hollowpoint lol yeah love the rx7 but if 300 is high insurance that would be too much for me, i need to get older lol.

RX7 all the way i have thought about swapping. If you do some research on the engine rebuilds you will find the truth rather than everyones knowledge that they hear people saying dont get a RX7 the engine needs rebuilding every 20k miles. Mostly down to people not knowing the engines and using the wrong oil.

Love the rx7, though it doesn't Have the most forum friendly engine name lol ****le, retro cool car that a lot of people were introduced to via the first need for speed game.

Rx8, love the way you open the doors and that's about it

RX7 is classed as a 1.3 litre, so some companies actually give decent insurance quotes.

But, it doesn't sound like either car is suitable for what you need. RX7 is an enthusiast's car much like the Zed. The RX8 is a tosser's car IMO :whistling:

If I were looking for a nippy, rear wheel drive run around I'd be looking at a 180/200sx or something. Or even a half decent 2.0 capri, with classic insurance. any car on a classic policy will cost less to insure.

If you were looking at Mazdas, why not the MX5? Or does it need 4 seats?

hmm well i was after a coupe with 4 seats and really liked how the doors worked too, but thats about how much i know about them so far lol.

Toyota AE86 - proper retro chic - no gimmicky doors required!

lol need something newer tbh maybe i should just get a 320i coupe or something.

Fast runaround, if it has to be rear wheel drive then its got to be a BMW of some sort, 325 or 330 or if you want something bigger you cant go far wrong with a 530i/d great cars. Fast reliable and comfortable.

Yeah,

join the rat race and live your dreams like every aspiring chav. Yes, you too can have the BMW of your dreams.. Well, actually you can't - but you could buy something that mildly resembles it and it will deffo have M sport badges on it. I've heard that M sport badges add another 30-50bhp :death:

Just look for the really long queue of people and join the back, that'll be the queue for people who want to own a used BMW.

Or if that doesn''t float your boat you could try buying something interesting instead.

Disclaimer - apologies to BMW owners. They are fine cars, handle well, are built properly and really make you look cool driving them...

OK but why can't the Germans make indicators that work?

they do work, just depends if someone paid the extra 10k for the optional extra (bulbs) lol

haha that is funny lool, well yeah i was looking at just a run around so wont be spending too much on it. looking at either the 323 or 325i. i think 330 would be a killer might as well use my z rather.

I've had a few BMWs now, my favourite was an E34 525i Sport. Awesome iconic car, mpg not too bad, is really fast when you need it, comfortable etc. and if you get a black one, everyone assumes there's a shotgun in the boot :D

a few of the local guys hae had 7s apprantly there super juicey one had one running 400bhp and that ran single figures, they have a bad rep for relaibilty, which as gonzo said is mostly related to poor mainatince. however an engine that needs rebuilding after 60k miles is in my mind a poor design. they are fot an entusiast who has money to lavish on them. but thy are one of the prettiest cars ever produced.

my father owns an 8 and is constantly threanting to sell it. hes had it for three years it cost him alot of money at the time. now its worth sod all, its the 231 model and its slow. my standard zed leaves it standing. the feul ecconomy is awful, for a modern car and he does lots of motor way miles. it has an unsual quirk that is seriously dissappointing. if used on a quick run, ie not long enough to warm the engine... you can go back and it wont start as its flooded itself! you then have to turn the engine over which the feul relay out till it bursts into life, kicks out loads of black smoke then runs fine. he did this twice before investigating its cause. so basically if he has to move it off the drive he has to leave it running on the drive for 5/10 minutes to warm up to stop the issue. not impressive. high milage models suffer lots of internal issues just like the 7. on a positive note its surprisingly spacious and can be picked up for a bargin second hand now. if you want a cheap run about buy one the rx series are not an ideal second run about car imo. go buy a vectra for the school run keep the zed for fun times.

RX8 just a runaround? What are these retailing for nowadays? Peanuts?

Given the choice of a well built, german executive saloon or a thirsty, high maintanence Jap one with a rude engine, I'd go for a Rover ZT every time.

Mind you, driving a BMW does have positive points..

automatic priority at any junction (out of my way peasant!)

you're right even when you're wrong (for god's sake man, can't you see I'm driving a BMW?)

girls thing you are lush (hey, twinkle toes, fancy a ride in my bimmer?)

exclusive use of lane 3 on the motorway (you're not a BMW, get out of the way - PEASANT!)

and exclusive use of lane 2.. (use the inside lane? I'm not taking my BMW there - its common, dear)

people will think you've made it! (look at my BMW, that's success in a box, right there)

If I lived in Leicester, I'd be that angry at BMWs as well :D

I recently sold my z, and replaced it with an RX8.

I love the wacky styling, although it is not for all tastes.

I love the mad rotary engine, and the suicide doors, the car is bespoke, and as such like nothing else.

Compared to the z, (I had a TT) it feels a little slow, and definately lacks the huge grunt of the z. But on the flipside, it is relatively modern, and cheap to buy, it sure sounds great, spinning up to 9000. You can get one around 04 reg for 4k with history. Go for the high output, 6 speed 231, to avoid a feeling of being 2nd best!

Reliability does seem to be an issue, get a proper compression check done at a Mazda dealer (c£80), or at least check hot starting, (it should fire almost immediately), before parting with any readies.

Lastly educate yourself about the woes of flooding before buying one.

If I lived in Leicester, I'd be that angry at BMWs as well :D

Not sure what you're getting at there..

But Leicester is the belly button of britain. Its in the middle and full of weird scum!

Can't wait for the day when I move back up t'north, where decent folk drive decent cars and BMW's are just something those posh southerner's drive!!

lol i think people fail to realise that you can pick BMW up for peanuts now a days. I even know people who are on jobseekers allowance who can afford to have a new BMW T_T
