Hi all,

Have a listen to this clip on youtube. It is exactly what I am hearing on my own Zed. Saves me recording a video :)

There are two sounds in the video, first the higher pitched faster tapping which has a regular rhythm but behind it there is a slower knocking kind of noise. The later is what I am concerned about.

Is this the hydraulic lifters I've herd about of is it something worse developing?

cheers, jay...

Check this out,

Does it sound the same?

Hi bud,

no definately does not sound like that. The slower knock like noise sound goes away when increasing revs up from idling, and also after running 10minutes of idle.

m8 iv got the same niose exept when i rev from idle it disapears

only happens when iv pulld up at lights or sumat..intresting though is when i investigated i pulled the rad towards me(bumper way it got worse..could be the fan shroud not put in place properly or the fan clutch is on its way out..just a thought

It sounds like it could be VVT springs, variable valve timing cuts in at higher revs, which is why you dont hear it until tickover. You will need to take of the cam cover anyway to get to them, so i would also check your timing belt tensioners while youre there.

Mr F has the springs and oil O rings, very easy to change once you have your timing covers off.

I think it was my bottom-end shells that went a few years ago and I remember that between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm it sounded like an old diesel revving.
