was just thinking, my zed was an import and im looking at new regs, (not for now for when/ if its fixed) its a G reg now and is a '91,

but technically its first registered in 2003, so could i have a current style reg on it?

I should imagine you would have to have G reg or older, would be a 1990 if anything not a 1991 if its G reg. What does it say on the logbook?

jeff had a Z in that was 51 plate or 52 plate so how was that possible?

yeah sorry meant '90, the one im going to see this week is a '91

on the dvla website is say "vehicles register after..... " so in theory its possible just want to see if anyone had done it, but if jeff had then that's great news

you are safe with G and older for sure, i see what your saying on the import question though, not sure on a 100% conf there however maybe pm Jeff ?

It is based on the year of manufacture, not when first registered, ie 2004 and so on, which is on the logbook. (It should say Declared Manufactured 1991 etc) Registration plates are normally issued based on manufacture date

You can make a car look older than when it was first registered either in this country or another, but you can not make it look younger. So for you you can put on a pre 1990, or a timeless plate. But it is from when first registered and not from when it was registered in the country. So no, you cannot put a 2001 plate on it. They wouldn't bother putting an age related plate on them when they first arrive in this country if they can have a later reg on. I can only assume that the one Jeff had in on a 2001/2002 plate it was becasue for one reason or another the car was not registered for the road until 01/02.

It was a 52 plate.

I was reading about it in a magazine at Jeffs the other day.

I meant to ask how it was a 52 plate.

Either registered late, or was built from scratch in 02/03..

that rings a bell from the original post now you said it lol!

Thought it would be, I have a timeless plate on mine, but it can be mistaken as a Y reg 2000/2001......lol.....:devil2:

For UK cars it goes on on the First registered date, but for imports it goes on the declared manufactured date It should say on the V5 that it was registered overseas and declard manufactured in whatever date.

So you can only put a plate of that year or older (or an Irish plate) on it, not newer.

The 51/52 plate Z would of been a DVLA ****up. Somebody puts the wrong date in the wrong field when typing it into system.

Trying to look for the thread but having more than three tins is preventing me from seeing it lol!!

There is a 53 plate Mk4 supra going round near me.

Not a show minter at all, bit of a shed from what i can see, so dont know how its got a 53 plate on it!

Also saw a Skyline on driftworks with a newer plate than it should..
