Just want to put my mind at rest.

I'd sold the standard suspension from my breaker for £50.

Went and meet but he didn't want them as the gaitors were split and he said it would fail an mot.

Is he right?

no not on the struts, it will on steering arms etc. as long as they ain't leaking or rusty to point of being dangerous. mine just flew through the mot with the damn things virtually hanging off. and the MOT guy was picky as well, as he thought my LED side lights where blue some how lol

Thanks fellas. Just thought it was me.

Its up to him what he wants, but i dont think my shocks are bad for £50.

They didn't squeak on the car and it drove spot on..

hmmm , jim, it sems apologies are in order, i was of the understanding that split gaitors would be a MOT fail, apologies if this inconvienienced you

Neil

Hey Neil

You will be fine with these.

MOT is for split ball joint rubbers and cv boot gaitors and streering rack gaitors. etc

you will be fine with these shocks

The gaitors on oem are also bump stops. As long as the bump stops are OK then they will be fine.

Split ball joint rubber is advisory only and cv gaitor should only fail if its the outer one bud.

Just saw this, missing bump stop is not a fail either iirc.

ah didnt know that. Still better if there all right :smartass:

No worries mate.

Do you want them now? I can meet you tomorrow if you do.

Cheers

jim , thanks the rear shocks on my car are good (Gaitors are split) which is why i was going to swap them, as your rears are the same it would seem there is no point in taking mine off if there is nothing MOT wrong with them, the fronts however remain to be seen and checked and may well be FUBAR ( i keep getting a clunking from the front when braking and have changed tension rods allready) so if you agree i will check my fronts shocks by Saturday and let you know , is this okay ???

thanks

Neil

Clunking on the front is more likely to be the top suspension mount.

will changing the front dampers complete ( for Big jims ) make any difference then,( as in old set off new set on) or is the top suspension mount a seperate thing altogether.

thanks

Dave, many thanks, Jim, are you okay with me confiming by Saturday, are you prepared to sell just the fronts , if so what cost do you have in mind etc etc,,
