Hi All,

My car is in the trimmers this week getting the seats and interior panels recovered but we've hit a stumbling block.

The trimmer has done the seats and some of the interior but he can't get the material off the door cards and dosn't think the tweed will hold the glue to stick the new white vinyl on top as it needs to be streched.

Has anyone re-covered the door cards and how do you overcome this?

This is pretty urgent as i need to pick the car up on Thursday after work and its a bank holiday weekend.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Peter

Agree with pub, just rip it off, it you do it carefully it will come off in one go, but if you do it too fast it will rip the tweed and come off in bits and bobs.

Cheers for the help guys. the trimmer said he couldn't rip it off as it was stuck too tight and that he didn't feel comfortable doing it in case he ripped the door cards?

The door panel tweed has a pvc backing, which is probably why he is struggling, but as said just rip it off, i wouldnt stick anything over the tweed.

I did mine with a heat gun and it just peeled away, the plastic backing that the tweed is stuck to stays there, for a good bond of the new material. The first one i did after ripping it off left the felt exposed under the plastic and it was bloody awful to clean up and get a good bonding surface.

funnily enough the guys who did my trim actually kept the tweed on the door cards and stuck the cover over it - they said it helps to keep the shape of the card (i.e. avoid any lumps of glue etc.) and the card stays a little soft. I've been very happy with the results so far.
