Made me chuckle!

I like the look of the FTO but the performance is Gash! lol

not when you compare it with other 2 litre's, then its pretty quick.

Do you think???

I borrowed my dads for a weekend some years ago with a view to buying it

I have to agree with S13louis VEEEEEEEEEEERY SLOW.

:wheelchair:

:wheelchair: I can confirm that they are slow, I took the dog out for a walk the other day, and I overtook one!!! My wheelchair doesn't even have an engine.........:rofl::rofl:

Has to be a manual mivec, all the rest are cack

Must admit my mate had a MIVEC, not too shabby for a NA... Although im pretty sure my old clio turbo diesel van would give it a run for its money to 60mph lol

Never been in a manual :confused1:

Slow ? No, Not at all, all things relative ofcourse.

The GPX model has 200bhp from a 2.0 NA.

For comparison most 2.0 cars have around 130bhp !

Offers similar Performance to a 300zx NA......or a Civic Type-R (re: recent thread)

I'd consider them to be good intro's to Japanese performance, I helped source one for my brother-in-law recently and he's very happy with it.

The biggest drawback is the drive wheels are the wrong end :p :)

Very true. But I think thats one of the things that makes them nice junior jap performance cars for the young and Inexperienced.

Yowser no offence dude but you cant compare an FTO to any Type R I have been in lol

My mates Civic Jordan would piss all over the MIVEC lol

Like you say good entry into the Jap scene.... although they are insurance group 20.... which is higher than my S13, and bloody ridiculous if you ask me lol

True but thats not a GPX. Difficult to be exact as the seller quotes GL and there is no such model:bored: It looks to me a GR model which is 168 BHP, chocolate brakes and VVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEERY SLOW.

Now I like the look of them but after driving one THEY ARE SHEEEEITE. IMHO

yes you can - Similar power, similar weight, similar performance figures......you can compare them all day long ;)

yeh, the one in that advert looks to be a GR.

But still dont see how you would consider 168bhp from a 2.0 to be really slow. Its still a lot more power than most 2litres have and weights less than 1200kg.

Is the 300zx TT the standard for all cars, and anything thats not as fast should be rediculed as being really slow?

Forgot to say, Imports dont have official Insurance group ratings. Its down the individual insurance company, but I know my brother-in-law is paying about the same for his GPX that he paid for his Celica 2.0GT that it replaced.

Not too suprising its more than a S13 though - They are newer, more powerfull and quicker than the S13 (a standard one anyway).

rofl no way man!

on paper maybe! my s13 was stock accept for a cat back exhaust. There is no way on earth any FTO I have been in would keep up with it in its standard form bud... on paper the S13 is said to top out at 130mph, I had mine way off the clock (around where the 170mph mark would be) - this was on a runway not public road

I know clocks have a margin of error, but lets assume for arguements sake the car was doing 155, I know from experience no standard FTO I have been in would reach that speed. :tt2:

Insurance wise I do find it surprising, FTO 2.0 Front wheel drive would be more expensive, and were talking a major difference here not a little, than a 1.8 Turbo Rear wheel drive.

You mentioned age too, although they are a similar age, but I have always found that newer cars tend to be cheaper to insure due to there difficulty to steal and improved safety systems (better brakes, esp etc)

This is from experience mind you, I dont know what the figures on paper are! :online2long:

I like the S13, more than the FTO, I used to own a facelift S13 180sx.

There isn't a huge amount in it, but in standard form the S13 is slower than the FTO gpx ! Its less powerful (169hp vs 200hp) and a little heavier.

Ofcoure a s13 being turbocharged is a lot easier to tune, and most are running some form of boost increase these days anyway.

For insurance, the reason I mentioned newer is because newer often means higher value. Although both cars can be picked up for peanuts these days, generally speaking and especially when insurance grades were set a FTO would cost more to replace than a SX. Plus the FTO was only available as an Import, unlike the SX - which scares Insurers when it comes to part prices and being able to source them and is probably the main reason for a high insurance grade.

But my brother in law is only paying the same as the Celica he had before, and I just looked that up and its insurance group 14.

LOL - great advert.....

.....and some good comparisons plus helpful words from Yowser on the subject of performance....

But I'll always remember one car magazine's review of the FTO: ...."looks like it should chase Porsches but in reality it keeps up with Mondeos"....

Then I don't really know enough about the FTO to comment.....:whistling:

Richard:cool3:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I thought my GPX went really well and i could keep up with my mates CTR all day long even in the twisties.

both are around 6.5-60 and both will top 140 so there far from slow. Its up there will all todays hot hatches turbos, not bad for a 2l NA from 1995

Also won japans car of the year 95 or 96 and used japan car 2001.

very underated. then you have the lightweight R version :)

Also to insure it was £50 less than my GSI which is group 16
