getting a bit annoying now gets through about quater of a litre a month now and causes smoke. when it stick on teh exhaust under the car. anyone got a map of the lines from the pot? the puddle collects under the pot area. think i can see it leaking from one of the joints. anyways any tips guys other than get stck in? i guess im being lazy....need to get it done...

If it is coming from one of the joints on the pas pot then I would replace it with a s/h one, can't really think of anything else.

90% of the time mate it will be the main feed to the pump, try nipping all the clips up first.

Only other place I know it leaks from is the pipe that runs from The pot to the lower cross member, there is a metal elbow that gets corroded and then leaks, pita to change

is that the sort inch diameter one i spotted? im gonna get in underneath tomorrow looks to me like a job best inspected from below. dont think the pot itself is leaking. theres not excessive fluid round it. i take it the one your reffering to vods in the one i can see running down the side of the rad towards teh steering rack? there are rust joins on that with dampness on them. im guessing best just to pull it out and have anew one knocked upa nd fit it.

The pipe comes from the pot down behind the altinator where there is a metal elbow, usually covered by a foam sleeve that deteriorates when power steering fluid contacts it, it then comes Down to the crossmember being held in place by two clamp brackets, then connects to a hard pipe by a copper nut that is attached to the pipe

cheers for taht im have to inspect and see where ive got damp its difficult to see just by looking with ebverything in place. i take it removing the lines is simply a case of undo each end undo retaining clip s then slide out?. replace refill bleed out air..

Also check your banjo bolts are tight, i just repaired a similar problem with a vectra for a relative. I say repaired, i tightened the bolt on the rack lol, No more leaks, if your bolts are tight, you could have a pin prick of a hole in the pipe which will cause it to leak, you might end up replacing the pipe.

If yours is a tt with standard pot, remove air intake pipes, you will see at the back of the pot there is a banjo connected pipe that goes towards the

alternator, under te car you will seethe pipe most likely covered in power steering juice lol, follow that towards the passenger side of the car, you will need two different sized spanners, a 14mm and a 19 (possibly 17mm can't bloody remember now) undo the copper nut and let the power steerig fluid drain from here as it's the lowest point. Undo the two clasps that hold the pipe to the cross member using a 10mm socket and ratchet. (the hard part as you have to get to the bolts from ontop while under the car-trust me it makes sense when your there)

Now undo the banjo bolt at the pot and feed the cable down and out, ooh at this point it's best to have a known good replacement lol, once it's out you get the fun of feeding the new pipe through, the old one will be held in place with reusable cable ties but you will most likely end up cutting these off if youcant get to undo them

I still say it's the pipe and problem I'm on about, out of 3 zx's I've owned I've had this leak on two of them including my latest one, both in the same place. Also confirmed by jefftt as a common fault, he also stocks the replacement offending pipe

thought id dig thsi post up and restart it. really need to get this sorted. ive tightened the jubelies that are obvious the two small ones the large one on the underside etc, but still leaking quite badly. its not the line coupler near the rad its further to the left, i can see it dripping down from higher up in the bay. i would assume its either the pump itself or one of the joints to it, how difficult would it be to remove the pump and replace the lines in this area etc. might be the best option in the long run? or is it a pita and well worth doing up the connections in situ first? any advice on the best acces etc, im guessing theres loadsa stuff thats in the way.

its a common fault with the power steering leaking fluid . i know from experience . jeff at zedworld gets these pipes remade . iirc its about £130 ish for parts and labour although im sure he would post you the pipe if you fancied having a go yourself at changing it

pump is rebuilt the problem was one of the o rings that is sealing the resivoir feed, bit a fiddly job to take the thing apart, and put it back toghther so now all ive gotta do is put everything back and top up the fluid. :D if only it was as easy and quick to put back as it was to say.
