Hey Guys,

 

I am curious if there was a race between the two who would win. My mates for a type r and i have seen him beat m3's. So i wondering if anyones had any experience or thoughts???

 

He always keeps telling me that he would win, he pushing about 240 with some basic mods.

Do some of you guys really "race" on public roads? Not only that but actively encourage others to look for a "race"??

Either i'm getting old or some of you need to relax a little.

my mate has a type r the shape before the current one. the one you think of when people say typeR we drove to cornwall last year, real fun drive be he seriously couldnt keep up with the zed once it got going. we were both stock at the time. close for a fair while but then the zed just gets in its stride and its gone. obviously we didnt push it too hard...i know for a fact that that even in standard form the zed surprises me sometimes. its not the feel of acceration as taht itself isnt always that impressive with teh auto box but its teh way the speedo moves, i regularly get out of the car thinking ****......corse there are faster things out there but generally they coat a damn site more to buy and run. what other 20 year old car can you blast about it enjoy cruise control. and over take like a bat out of hell. that 50 upwards range in the right gear is unholly fast, and without a keen eye on the speedo could get you in alot of trouble very fast lol. i orginally brought my zed because i liked the way it looked and it was quick. and the eccomony was far better than the camaero i wanted instead. two years later and i def want to keep it, yes it a little tepremental but its 20 years old, as much as my mrs says she dislikes it shes coming round each trip out in the sun makes her like it a little more. and when i drop her off its my time to play on the way home. all this who is quicker malarky means nothing unless its in real life , and its stupid to play this game on the street, where 90% of our cars live. if you want to know how quick the zed is its gotta go on the track, it quickly runs out of road to display its talents.

I really doubt any of us encourage that, i based the question on the fact that it would be on a track day and not on the public roads. Sorry any wrong ideas put forward!

Honda's are fantastic!!! absolute joy to drive, will beat any 'simillar' car, focus st170, clio cup, 206gti160, mgzs180, etc etc......

 

The VTEC is addictive, it will bounce off the limiter all day and you still dont feel like you've given it enough shi*, very reliable, looks and sounds great.

 

However i personally think its daft to compare a 2002+ typeR to a zed.... The zed is better period... what did honda have in 1989 that would beat a zed? Nothing. I love my prelude, its a brilliant daily driver, but the zed is far superior, especially when putting in consideration of its age.

Yowsers points about 0-100 time ring very true, that is more a true indication of a cars power. I doubt I could get my zed to 60 in anything like 5 seconds, not a good enoguh driver nor would I want to risk causing any damage. However, rolling at a certain mph and were laughing.

 

To call on an example, i had a bit of a "do" with a friend of mine in his civic type R (later shape (01-06 ish) and dear god he couldnt stay anywhere near him. Infact I did rather wonder if there was something wrong with it at first...

Also a chap in an e46 m3 on the asme bit of private runway, it was very close actually although the higher the speeds the more I was gaining.

 

However, its all just pub talk really - the chap in the R8/VX220 turbo etc etc could say "oh I wasnt really trying" we'll never know unless it is someone you are good friends with etc.

 

Also got to remember chaps, alot of these speeds reached are shown on stock zed gauges... and we all know how accurate they are!

 

Now Coolq, your car at "500bhp" and you claim it "no that fast" maybe worth getting it dynoed your self just to make sure? I know you have print outs from purchase, but ive got some printouts from my first 300zx at 581bhp but the dyno was broken...

End of the day as a SWB targa it probably weighs around 1450kg which gives a power to rate of 344bhp/tonne which is actually just a touch more than a Ferrari F430. So an F430 isnt that quick?

 

Often riding in bug boxes with 200/250bhp feels rapid because of the size/noise/unrefinment and often frantic acceleration given by short gearing. I remember a friend of mine having an original mini, 1275cc i think it was, possibly even 70bhp. Good god it felt insanly fast, until I looked at the speedo and we were doing 40. Just so low, so hard and so dam noisey!

I've got to say having read this thread all the way through I agree with everything said in the zeds favour. I think sometimes smaller more revvy cars feel faster because the zeds power and speed is smoother and almost effortless you don't realise how fast you're actually going. And although I love Civic Type Rs for the sound of that crazy redline - having been passenger in a few different ones they're certainly well below the league of the zed and I have to say that even in the Corsa 2.0 redtop conversion I have I can normally embarass a standard type R off the line - they arent anything special.

I suggest you calm it with the threats to be quite honest. this club neither wants that kind of attitude or encourages it. your lucky i didn't lock this thread when you were encouraging racing on the A14. let alone when you threw a personal attack my way earlier in the thread, but if your going to start threatening people. you will soon find a ban heading your way.

That is a threat if ever i heard one. and considering your the one with your back against the wall on this. take time out from the thread cool down, instead of getting hot headed.

 

At the end of the day there will be highly modified civics that will beat a 300zx, but stock for stock, not going to happen unless the 300zx driver really isn't good at doing anything.

 

If you have deep enough pockets im sure you can get any car chassis to beat another car chassis.

 

But then beating another car is a pointless argument.

my mates got an EK9 type R import, yeah, it's pretty rapid, but come on, he doesn't stand a cat in hells chance aginst my Zed, even at stock boost...
