I'm not the best person to answer that as they are the common places they can rust that I know of & I've only ever had 2 jap zeds !

:( Did a quick search but couldn't spot anything, will have a look though. Was thinking it may be too good to be true...

just get underneath it if you can any dodgy bits should be obviouse as YTS said check sills and floor pan

if you can lift the carpet in the boot and really if you can the carpet in the footwells

Ive seen this come up on pistonheads a day or 2 ago its over priced IMO as said before rust on rear arches, sills, front suspension mounts in engine bay in fact the whole car not many UK ones that old have survived the rot unless they have been worked on so checked for filler in the areas mentioned.

Oh check paint code on the front panel too in engine bay should be reading EH7 if its pearlerescent yellow

just buy a rust free import, the uk one is just going to be a pain to keep on top of the rust. Unless its been garaged all its life and only driven in the dry.

YTS, don't mind the drive for the right car :) When you selling yours?

As soon as the interior gets back from being retrimmed in black & red alcantara (sued) should be about 14 days or so

Well I have around £4500 - £5000 to spend on the next motor. Ideally looking for a manual TT with t/top :)

Car seems in great condition however you cant really tell by the pics. What i would say is dont be put off the Uk specs, had mine for about 3 years and it has no rust as has been used on most days. As long as it is well taken care of you should have no problems ( but as above make sure you take your time checking )

thats true

id personally go for an import but if theyrs a chance of getting a uk spec thats been well looked after and no rust then go for it...just dont jump at the first one you see though might look spanking on the outside but might be like a metaphore in the bit you wont usually see

I disagree that it's over priced, if theres good reason for it then I think reassuringly expensive is the way forward for the right car... You have to be sure though, as said I think crest have a bad rep but it's worth getting the fine tooth comb out just to compare.

The biggest rust problem you'll find won't be visable until it's too late, the targas have drains which exit inside the sills, these drain holes in the sills can block, or build up allowing a moisture build up in the sill. It then rots from the inside out... By the time you see it, the inside is messy!

Good to see someone willing to pay a reasonable price for a zed though, most have a budget of 300 quid! Ideally take someone with you who knows the cat to be as sure as possible that your getting a good investment.

I normally wouldn't buy from a garage or an 'unknown' person. Most of my cars have been bought through owners clubs/forums as they tend to be the better looked after cars but I thought this one looked really nice :) Wasn't aware of the bad rep on Crest cars so i'm really glad I posted this!

Thanks!

iv got an import N/A for sale if that intrests ye

Ive got an import SWB TT Manual for sale shortly too oh and a NA Auto shorty :)

I Agree. LWB are just as nice looking and slightly more practical.

Be nice to have another North East Zed owner to attend the local meets :)

yes if you want a family saloon the zed was made to be a sports car not a people carrier :)
