hello all.

Long time since I've been on a forum but thought it only right to say hello and introduce myself :)

Previously had a 350z and after buying a diesel for the work commute decided to try a 300zx. I pick it up at the end of the month!! :)

I thought I'd register as the car I have purchased has you guys stickers in the windows......hoping to maybe find some forum history about it or even the previous owner!!

So, I don't have any pictures of it yet but it is a

black n/a 300zx

Bought from a garage in lytham, apparently the previous owner is from lytham too......?

Either way I'm here now and intend to make a detailed post of my intentions with the car, once it arrives :))

So hi,

Thanks for reading.

Wayne.

I could be wrong but my personal view is that mileage is not such an important issue once you get to this age and value of car.

Whether a Z has done 56,000 miles (for a 16-20 year old car?) or 100,000 miles should not really matter.

The condition and quality of the car is more important, and of course how it drives.

Just my 2 pennies worth.

yeah, i agree with this view also, just if its valued at 78k, its gotta be worth less with unknown mileage.......

think ill have to look at reducing purchase price slightly, then buying a tt engine and box to build and put in it, otherwise i just put my money into a 350 again..... dilema!! :)

if its been well looked after, i agree with whats been said, if the miles are now doubtfull, gives you a bit of leverage re the price.

But regarless if well maintained, and serviced, if zeds are cared for they should go on and on. Mine has just passed 130k, starts first time, and still goes like a madman, dosent use oil or loose water, engine is sweet and purrs, just the dam sills are the issue at present, but thats nothing unusaul for a UK, but it is nearly 17 years old.

Totally agree with the mileage issue here.......

I think many zeds are not reading the true mileage at this present time, car sales will do the most they can to present a zed with low miles just to sell. As for "clocking" a zed.... it is so damn easy, honestly, i have had my clocks out so many times for many issues with the mileage counter, in bits, or staring you in the face ready to be "wound back"...

Think of the new cars out for resale with digital readouts for mileage, simply plug the laptop/reader in and re-figure the miles......

I have had many years involved with the buying and resale of cars, and this really goes on across all cars..

The only real guarantee for true mileage is old mot's...... fact!! ( but if the guy is clever, he will clock before an mot, so.... no win!!)

very true, it looks ok and at the moment all im thinking is asking for a cambelt to be done as i cant verify how much mileage the belt has done and unless im mistaken they are due every 60k??

a little light to be shed on this subject, turns out the car had a documented speedo change as the last mot done in 2010 shows a mileage of 1443, so i need to pop up and see if the advertised 78000 is actually 7800....... hoping thats the case as then its about right mileage of 110000 miles ish.....?

so maybe not as bad as i first thought :)

Lets hope so, good luck with whatever you end up doing:cool3:

Yup - 60k or 5 years!

And for such a job it's best to have someone do it who has worked on these cars before. It's easy to balls it up and get the cam timing wrong judging by some of the horror stories JeffTT has told us.

Oh, and change the little rubber water hoses at the front of the engine, the thermostat and check the water pump. It's usual for that to fail at 60k as well; so often the whole lot is replaced whilst the front of the engine is off.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Mine is a UK and has done a LOT of miles I think. The previous owner blew the engine up on his way back home from picking it up and allegedly had a 70K engine put in it, which is f****d to be honest. Plenum is nackered, had a rocker cover oil leak when I bought it, no idea what state the cam belt is in, allegedly has new turbos in it, but I'm doubting it more and more every day, was supposed to have coil-overs, but just has lowered suspension on it, oh and my mileage meter doesn't even work.

To be honest I'm a little fed up with my Z, as much as I love it. I'm taking it off the road at the end of the month, taking it apart and deciding whether to put it back together again. If I break it and ever buy another Z, I will be insisting on receipts on receipts on receipts and I'll be checking them on site, not a year later as some have mentioned and as I did this time round.

im gonna get the job priced up with all the other little bits getting done at the same time yeah, if he'll do that then im happy. :)

hi blackpool-z32, be interesting to hear how the 300zx compares to your 350z and see if all the topgear races between the two (where the 350z allways gets ruined)are true:cool3:

I think blackpool-z32 is looking at an NA, as apposed to a TT so it will be slower than a 350z...

In the top gear races, the Z32 that won both was a TT.

I think were all trying to keep that flag flying!

Weird thing from the video, I was always under the impression that the 240z was the quickest of the S30's, yet that 260z clearly spanked it, and nearly took the 350z!

From memory, that was Tony's 260z and it's been well fettled. Nice car.

Hey Mike - good to see you're still about on the forum. I hope you're well mate!!

It is a N/A that im looking at and i probably should have been a bit more specific with my statement.

I loved the 350z as an allround car, wasnt the fastest car ive had but the way it handled and the way it sounded were second to none in my opinion, so what im hoping is that with the right exhaust i can get a similar sound, and im hoping the fact that the N/A im looking at is standard that it may have similar handling characteristics.....

the test drive confirmed that irt wasnt as fast as the 350 but mine had a few tricky bits done to it on the engine. :)

Do you mind me asking why you're moving from a 350 to a 300 (N/A)?

I love the 300, but I'm not sure why you would move from a much newer 350 N/A to a much older 300 N/A.

The 300 was far greater than the 350 in its time, but I would have thought that a 350 would be much better than a 300 N/A in most respects. The TT is another thing altogether of course. Unless it's the 2 extra seats...

Sorry if it's already been answered somewhere on this thread.

Hi, it hasnt been answered yet no, ok:

i had the 350z and an s70R two years ago, started seeing a girl from manchester and with all the travelling decided a diesel would be a better option, so got a fabia vrs, and sold the volvo too.

that lasted a month as it was the king of understeering, so i pushed the boat out and got a mk5 r32 which was ace! except for electrical issues that eventually got me so annoyed that i changed again, now to a 118d m sport bmw.

as the 1 series is a good car i dont really want to get rid of it but wanted a toy at the same time, so i have hopefully satisfied this by having an R6, this 300zx N/A, and an e30 3 series from 1990.

If not then next year ill be chopping the 1 series in for another 350z :D

update!!

I get my car in two weeks :)

And I'm putting it on the rolling road at work on the 9th of June so will see how many ponies it still posesses!!! :D

Also, anyone who has a love for old e30 bmws that are in good condition give me a nudge as I have one that I'd like to sell/swap for some nice zx parts........ That's right, a whole car just for some parts!! :)
