The other day my neighbors had a concrete hard stand built for there drive. (looks bloody awful!) When I got home today I decided to wash the car and give her a good polish etc :) when I got to the passenger side of the car I noticed there were little specs of something hard stuck to the paint work but managed to get it off fairly easy. When I got to the bonnet it was a different story, there are blobs of concrete set on the paint work :(

I'm devastated! The car had a full re-spray last July and has been well looked after ever since. I feel that I can't really say anything to the neighbours because we get on really well and they are a really nice couple, great with my kids etc and it probably wasn't there fault anyway it was prob the delivery truck when dumping the cement and they did decide to drop it off on a very wet and windy day.

Just wanted to get it off my chest.

It's on there rock solid! I'm going to have to take it to the lads who did the spray job and ask them to sort it because I'm afraid it will mark :(

But what?

VINEGAR

Try using neat white household vinegar on the concrete. Concrete (or rather the cement in it) is an alkali and I have heard of detailers using vinegar (a mild acid) to neutralise the cement and make it lift off the paintwork. As it is a well protected surface anyway, it should be relatively easy. Put some in a spray bottle and soak the concrete spots, let it dwell for a moment and see if it will shift. Have the hosepipe ready to hand to give it a good rinsing. When you're all done, give it a good polish and re-wax it.

Job done :)

PS - if this doen't work, get some muriatic acid (used in pool cleaning) - that'll really fizz it off!! (last resort though, leave it on your paint for too long and it's bye bye colour/hello primer LOL!)

as much as i like my neighbours id still say to them even just to make them aware of it. the guy across from my mum has a porsche 944 its kept in showroom condition he went away for the day left it in his drive and his neighbour had builders in doing there drive they had dust everywhere from doing the drive and they paid to get everything cleaned enginebay the lot

If you are at you ends witts end, it is a resprayed bonnet, I can send you some descale powder that we use to descale industrial catering equipment, it will remove it, as concreat and cement is lime based.

I would not use it unless you are faced with the ultimatum of spending a load of money respraying the effected area. I reason I say this is that I dont know what the effects would be on fresh paint.

All this was resolved after 3 months of phone calls and letters to the company involved and there insurance company.

The work was completed in the bodyshop about a month ago and no spraying was needed :) The guy I use for my spray work and body repair got all the concrete off with no hassle and the paint work just needed a good mop. It didn't leave a mark :):clap:

The insurance company were charged £912 for the repair (this was before Gaz in the bodyshop realized he could get it off without damaging the paint work)

Now I have £600 spare to spend through work :)

I've ordered everything I need for my timing belt change inc the water pump etc , also inc fitting!. A new scuttle panel and also the rubbers for most of the outisde of the car :)

Once the timing belt is done this month she's going to be sorned so I can get the plenum off and do the water bypass and also remove the power steering pot, balance bar etc to get them chromed and order some braided fuel lines.

The nearly new 4 blue Samco air intake hoses will be taken off (put up for sale) and replaced with sfs hard pipes.

WELL HAPPY

Great news buddy, well done on a result there :D

Just out of interest did the vinegar trick work in the end?

I'm over the moon :)

Didn't try the vinegar trick in the end.

Yup - I'm glad you got it sorted mate!

This is the kind of thing that many builders etc don't realize is a problem. Back in June I left my ZX with my local garage for an oil/filter change before taking it on hols.

Since parking outside their premises is limited, once they had finished they left it safe in a side road (as they usually do) until I collected it. Thing is, one of the houses opposite was undergoing major renovation works and when I got to my car later that day, it was covered in cement dust.

Luckily it was a dry day - but imagine if it had rained and the cement dust had gotten wet and turned to concrete! But I had to spend the evening gently wiping it down with an old towel and then giving it a thorough wash to ensure all the cement had gone.

I really feel for the neighbours of that house, with nice shiney new Mercs and BMWs on their drives. I would be pretty pissed off TBH and would have to say something!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
