I'm in the process of removing the old engine and autobox to replace with new engine and manual box. I was wondering how easy it would be to use the old autobox rad to cool the engine oil instead of the little one built into the coolant rad?

 

Is it worth doing? and if not can I remove the tranny rad and increase the airflow over the coolant one?

 

Or should I just leave alone?

Yes, but my question was can I use the much bigger gearbox cooler that will be redundant, instead.

yeh its pretty common. i was intending to uprate my gearbox cooler and keep the engine oil cooler standard. that didnt work out due to the previous owners "modifications" ended up using the mocal u[prated one on my engine and the oem one is running the box. bit of plumbing and had to alter the brackets to fit but its all in there nice and neat and trouble free. hope that helps

If you were changing engines and going auto to manual at the same time but also changing to a Koyo manual rad what would be the best solution???

theres no difference. you just wouldnt use one of teh coolers as you wouldnt need a cooler for the manuel. the auto box one as standard in series ones runs throuigh the rad in a jap car uk car have a seperate cooler. so relastically if your going from auto to manual and changing the rad then depending on wetehr its jap or uk will depend on weather youve now got a spare oil cooler or not.

Just had a proper look and, the coolant rad is also cooling the autobox, not the engine oil as I first thought :blush: So I don't have to do anything.

yeh tahst sounds right the auto box just goes into the right hand side of the rad as you look at it head on. just a bit of of pipe basically. when i fitted the uprated one i just left it blank. so theres two little nipples on my rad that do nothing.

My one was going to a hard line tree on the bottom of the rad. Will either remove it all or get a manual rad.
