Ian,

This hopefully is the alternator or fan belt, easy to ajust from underneath. It could also be the auto tensioner, not so easy or cheep !!!.

Does it go away if you turn off the heater? Mine occassionally squeals if car on idle and the heater on. If I turn mine off or increase the temp to above 25 it goes away. This proved to be the a/c pump clutch.

Spent all day on my back under the Z today finally sorted the problem.

When i removed the engine cover there was a

bolt sitting on the bottom of it!

The bolt was the mounting bolt off the alternator which had worked itself loose and fallen out!!

The alternator was only held in place by the adjusting bracket and the fan belt itself

FFS!!

No wonder there was a squealing noise the belt must have been slipping like fuck!!

Finally got the bolt back in place, twat to

get to lying on your back under the car.

aching like fuck now.
