The Z has lots of problems, nothing unsurmountable with some cash and time, but it's MOT is due at the end of April, which will cost a good £500 minimum to get it through, with the way things are in the world right now, we are really not sure whether to keep the Z or not. We love it, but it's just got so much wrong with it, plus so much we want to do with it etc.

I don't want to keep it if I'm just going to keep throwing £300 here, £1000 there to keep it running until it finally dies a death, if I'm keeping it, I'm taking it off the road, bare-metalling it, stripping and re-building the engine etc, which will cost thousands and take months.

I really can't decide what to do, selling it whole isn't an option, I would get naff all for it with all the little bits it needs doing to it, so, do I break, or do I restore?

any zed is best kept in one piece over being broken imo, but the decision has to be from you i guess based on circumstances etc, good luck with what ever you decide!

in my opinion alex, break it and buy a better one with the money, yours has been neglected in the past and the rust is pretty bad compared with most (but seen a lot worse). I know you love the Z and I reckon you could get a far better one with the money you'll make from yours :thumbup1:

I know how you feel, and ive broken a zed.

Im in the same sort of boat as you now with mine.

I wont brake another, its a pain in the arse, and when you take it apart, you find how good it was and regret it!

If you NEED the money now, i can see why you'd want to break, but if its just a case that you cant afford to do the work, take it off the road and do it when you can afford it.

Chances are, the next zed you'd buy, will need the same sort of work doing in the next year or so, so will be in the same position.

Problem is, most of the money in mine is in the up-rated parts (Wheels, tubbies, ECU etc.), which I'd rather stick on the replacement (Assuming I bought one) I'm pretty attached to the car, so if I break it, I think that'll be it Z wise for me, at least for a while. Not that I can even think what I'd buy to replace it.

The arches, tailgate and sills are the worst for the rust, I can replace pretty much all of them with proper metal parts, not just sand and fill, the suspension top in the engine bay does worry me a bit though too.

I might put it through an MOT and see what it fails on, if it's more than I expect there might be my answer, I just don't know. Finding a gunmetal manual Z was hard enough the first time.

As I said to Mikey Bean today, it's not that I can't afford to do the work, I can, it's wether I can warrant it, I have two kids and a missus to think of, can I still afford to throw thousands at a car that knowing my luck I'll have to sell or will get stolen in a year or two? I'm not 19, living in London with a good job and no cares anymore (That's when I had the GTR).

Sounds like a plan putting it for its mot.

I cant justify having the M3, hence it being for sale!
