auto to manual conversion...

Hi all,

After my auto packed up I have decided to convert my Z to a manual.

I know this has been done before on this forum, and was wondering if anyone had any tips/things to look out for?

Thanks guys,

Brian

andy p what happened ?

hmmm another gearbox woe and it involves my two favorite people in it?

(really not trying to cause trouble) but what happened.

Synchro on 4th is shafted and Kash has gone to ground !

Andy,

I'm gonna be having a manual conversion soon. I'd appreciate knowing any other things that caught you out or things to bear in mind.

Did SE do a good job?

Cheers,

Andy

Thank god my hunch on thatman was right?

sorry to hear that for you. But shy did you not get the box checked out before you fitted it? (again no flaming just interested to know)

how bad is 4th? cause it si a genreal problem with these boxes. mine is fine though?

Nothing wrong with SE's work, they did what I asked of them. Key here is to make sure you tell them exactly what you want, but that is true with any company - they don't tend to employ many mind readers !

The reason I didn't get it checked out - because I'm a tw@t and an @rse and I believed Kash and now I'm f*cking kicking myself and it's gonna cost me more.

Feckers !

But aside from that - it's definitely quicker, the pull in 3rd & 4th from about 2500rpm is phenomenal, but none of you manual guys would know about that, because you don't have auto turbos ! LOL

So have you got hold of KASH yet?

And no we dotn have small arse auto turbos, just some shitty big ones lol biggrin.gif

Hi Andy,

Im a bit concerned by something you said:

What exactly do you have to explicitely say to them? Isn't saying "I want a manual conversion, here are the bits" enough? Also, do they have a fixed price for the job? If so, could you let me know?

Cheers,

Andy

Waz, let's see you're dyno chart then, and we'll see who's got the most torque and power in the mid range. biggrin.gif

Andrew, I had some other stuff that I wanted done too, so I always go in with a printed list of exactly what I want, then there can be no argument afterwards. This is not unique to SE, I would do this with anyone, it just provides a clear understanding for both parties.

SE do the conversion on a fixed price of £1000 incl VAT. (Most of their work is fixed price). OK, so it's a lot, but there's no way I had the facilities to do it myself and it would have cost me something similar to take a week off work to do it myself.

I know of two ZEDS which are being broken if anyone. One manual box available with all parts required to convert.

If you speak with Steve he can also carry out the converstion for you.

tele:- 01189402027.

He knows his stuff and does all my ZED work.

Manual box is already out of the car.

He wont sell you a faulty box, and his prices are reasonable for labour should you want him to install.

Leigh.

?

hope you catch kash

400bhp at 4000rpm - don't make me laugh biggrin.gif

Nope, I don't have a dyno run yet, want to sort one out though. Need to get myself an SE chip for full effect though. I called your mates over at Kings Langley for another dyno run, but it seems like they've been shutdown for making too much noise frown.gif

lol, but when you were at the dyno day you ran an se chip?

first you ran with out one then you ran with one?

Its a good job we have a seperate section for tech questions init!!! Brian maybe you should have posted your question in th...... oh wait a minute you have!!!

FFS no one has answered the guys question - just argued about who has the highest mid range power!!! Who gives a toss???

Brian, shaunmac from here has done this job himself wink.gif I'm sure he'll know a lot more about the conversion than SE (cough) I mean anyone who's had it done for them wink.gif

I'm sure he won't mind me giving you his email - shaun@bangor.ac.uk

I have been in his car and can vouch for the fact that the auto turbos and cams give an awesome mid range pull - not sure what happens as the speed increases though...

CheerZ,

Andy

yeah sorry brian.

Not meant to bash your original post.

I just fail to see how it can be such a big difference.

No matter what anyone says here anyway, the fact is you have smaller turbos and you will lose out at some point to a normal manual car. The laws of physics go against you.

Sorry

Yes, if you need to know what parts you'll need or anything to beware of then drop me an E-mail.

Address is as above.(shaun@bangor.ac.uk)

I'm glad that I did the conversion, it was well worth it cos the car feels much quicker than it did before. I'm about to install TC from Racelogic with Launch ctrl etc. Should be fun!!!

PS. Sorry to hear you got stitched up with your gearbox andyp, what a b*****d! I'm sure you'll catch up with Kash eventually & ask for at least some of the money back!
