are these spacers a good idea, do they cause any kind of negative driving or handling issues? could do with 20mm on the front to bring my wheels out a tad.

Make sure you use the correct nuts with these spacers and that you check them regularly!

I wouldnt bother personally but each to their own!

im going to be ordering a set from there next month. was recommended by funkysi im sure going by that id say they must be pretty good

I would bother personally as it gives your car alot better stance and look. As recommended by funkysi on the other site when i was asking as well. Also as it says it includes the nuts required to fit so as long as they are torqued up correctly there will be no issues

Ive had hub centrics fail on me before on hard cornering. when you see your wheel go bouncing through a field and your following it, its not much fun. somthing i would never ever fit again

a little more details would be nice like make of spacers that failed, car they were on, size of spacer, did it shear on the hubcentric studs or the vehicle studs?

i suppose as long as the materials are of the correct tensile strength and its all torqued up corectly what can go wrong... its no different really compared to bolting a wheel on.

i was running 20 mm h&r hubcentrics for a while with no problems what so ever! correct torquing etc and they should be fine!

H&R spacers only, made in Germany with a very high tensile value.

Got these little puppies on my fronts and rears!!

I had a wheel drop of due to the wrong nuts being fitted, steel wheel nuts tightened into cheese like aluminium. Un beknown to me I have to say, like that when I bought the car. Experience a knocking one evening with a friend, instantly pulled in and had a look but couldnt see anything in the dark so thought I would nurse the car to a lit area, 50m later the front left wheel dropped of and up under the front wing. I thought the bottom arm had sheared at first as the wheel was at 45* to the car. Only when I saw the brake disk was at its correct position I realised that the nuts had litterly wound their way of!

i supose the safer bet ..but LOTS more expensive, is to have custom split rims made up with the desired offset to give the stance needed but retain the original bolts without spacers ? ?

no need, if your going down taht route simply buying wheels taht are manifactured to the correct offset is fine, one two or even three piece. the problem arises when buying second hand rims finding the offset you want becomes a little more challenging.
