Water temp and boost gauge replacement

Well, that time of the year seems to be hear again and I have got my tinkering mojo back so I thought i'd put up some updates on a few new projects.

the first one is to replace the rubbish temp gauge without having lots of extra pod stuck all over the place.

So - rip the old one out!!!

This very easy and there are only a few screws holding it it. Most aftermarket 60mm gauges will fit in the hole quite neatly.

I have managed to source a gauge that gives me water temp, exhaust temp and boost all in one. Not cheap at £180 but it is 3 gauges in one.

I have managed to match it to my the standard dash colours and even the orientation of the needle at rest is a perfect match.

The lense cover will be removed also so it will look the same as the other dials (non reflective).

It's all about the detail and for me - less is more!!

All I have to do now is get the EGT and water temp senders that come with the kit welded in to the top water pie and exhaust :scared:

What do you think?

it can give you an indication of detonation i.e. lean mixture will burn at a higher temp. (I have by passed the knock sensor as it died)

Not essential on my level of tuning but is nice to know what is going on when i upgrade my tubs. Might not even hook it up yet as it maybe wise to put it in line before the turbos which will be a pain in the arse. Would be easier when I get new turbos and manifolds. I was going to put it in the down pipes but still looking into it.

Looks good though, i want to get a water temp gauge for mine, but cant seem to find one from the people who do my gauges (Auto gauge LED one, to match what i have already)

Try shadow pro on ebay or google. This will match the standard dash better than most. i did a lot of searching on this!!!

oooh they look sexy. but i want it in the triple A pillar, (or i might change to the triple dash pod that zcenter sell) but want the gauge showing it in LED numbers rather than a needle to match the ones i already have.

the two things you look at already are rpm and speed. it therefore makes sense to have other gauges in the same area imho. i like the idea of having boost and rpm close to each other.

I know what your saying bud, dont get me wrong. i too like the idea, but ive just got chrome dial rings and dont want to mess up the uniformed look :D

i always fancied putting one in the upper boost pipes to keep an eye on air temps going in

wow, that should look great once lense cover removed.

I have been looking for a complete set of replacement gauges for ages now, but never found anything I liked or that offered all the relevant gauge options.

But this Daemon gauge looks great...fits in nicely with the stock gauges. Do you have a link to the supplier?

Nice one Andy. A great update/improvement me thinks. Detail, detail, detail.

Hi mate

I found them on alibaba which is for traders only. They wouldn't respond to my emails though. I then got Jerrick from meisterR on the case and he managed to get me one as a favor. He did say he would not be interested in importing them as they are so expensive. He did that one at cost for as a a tha k you for the research I did one the coilovers for the z

I think the shadow ones are quite good if the demon ones are a no go.

I think the z already has in intake temp sensor. Not sure though?

looking good dude, now all you need is a gauge to show you which cylinders are firing ;)

LoL!!

That's another job on the bloody list!! And while the plenums off that will get a few more mods!!

Wow! I never found that site!

Those are the ones. If you can get them then that's awesome. I tried to get them for 9 months with no joy!!!1

Haha google is always your friend. God knows if they would ship to the UK though!

Hi Andy that is very nice , where does it take its boost signal from, the standard vacum , or is it electronic as per the origional poxy gauge in the speedo .....

Hi Steve,

The gauge came with 3 separate senders for water temp, EGT, and boost. The boost one goes in line.

Finally got the sender in!!!!!!

What a pain in the arse!!

After going to loads of machine shops and getting nowhere.

I called on my old friends at speedflow and they said just send us the sender as it could be one of two tread types that one has 26 threads per inch and the other has 27 or something like that. The upshot would be that if you get it wrong it will screw in once but wouldn't be re-usable!!

So, I sent it off and she measured it and sent me back two blue anodised adapters - one big and one small. The problem with just using the adapter is that the sensor would sit too high and not be in the coolant. So, it would have to be adapted...

I then took these to a local engineering shop who cut down my water pipe, drilled it out, de-annodised the adapter and welded it on...... all because I wanted it to look factory. I then smoothed an polished the hexagonal top round to blent back in.

Less is more!! or in this case...less is a right pain in the arse to achieve!!

Now just need to get the new wire from the engine bay into the cabin - not sure if I have anymore room!! Oh well, that's what sundays are for!

What do you think?

very, very smart mate, I love attention to detail :) :thumbup1:

I wouldn't have noticed the welded on/smoothed out nut if you hadn't mentioned it...

Yep me too. Should get the gauge done if I can drag myself away from the Grand Prix!!

:cool2:
