Hi, are all Jap imports restricted to 112mph, and how were the cars restricted. The speedo in my car only goes to 120mph, yet i,ve seen other N/A models with 180mph.

Yes all are restricted (unless been de-restricted of course!)

And your dial face has been changed to sort of read Mph!

mate mines only goes to 110 not tried it yet but i think the restrictor is still theyr

im thinking once i upgrade a few parts going for a jim wolf chip

How do you de-restrict an imported car, out of interest.

a kmh to mph converter will de-restrict it . pretty sure a set of uk clocks will do the job too .

To do it right, change the chip and clocks.:whistling:

Ah, thanks, i thought it might be something a bit more complicated than just removing that plastic block from under the gas pedal:whistling:

The jap clocks even with a convertor the odometer will read in kph. UK clocks will read in miles and get rid of the restriction, but also at a later date get the ECU chipped, mapped for rev limit restriction set highter, fuelling etc.

I didnt realise that, I thought the converter did the odo too.

the convertor technically doesn't remove the limit, it just raises it (I think) to whatever 112 MPH is in KPH...

So if i buy a set of clocks off a UK spec scrapper and fit them this will de-restrict my car ? What is it a chip in the clock or something.

The convertor just tricks the ECU into thinking its going slower, so basically a resistor. It can also effect the power steering.

Agree with the above, Converters are not a good idea on cars with 4 wheel steeing as if you swerve at 80mph the hicas will react to deal with a swerve at 80kmph (50mph).

It's already restricted to 112mph (or 180km/h) so the convertor makes the car think it's still doing km/h when it's actually miles. If that makes sense - so the new limit would be 180mph

I believe so - but UK spec clocks are getting pretty rare now, so good luck in your hunt!

Yup, what they said - so it's always best to have it done properly so that car knows exactly how fast it's really going!

Thanks for the info everyone, think i'll leave things well alone, wont be often i'll be doing over 112 mph, think i'll just make it a bit quicker from 0 to 112. First step taken today, fitted a couple of K N filters, not a huge difference in performance but she does fly. Exhaust next i think. I watched wheeler dealer the other night and they were doing up a scoobie wrx, they fitted a K N filter and a performance exhaust and the mods made the performance worse then standard, but alot better after a new chip and a rolling road tune up. Can fitting an after market performance exhaust spoil the performance on my ZX ? Most cars seem to have them.

think only if theyrbadly made and the pipe diameter is to small..restricts the exhaust gasses causing to much back pressure bad in an N/A

I have heard something like a bit of back pressure is better for an N/A but not a turbo.....

.......so a massive exhaust on a non-turbo car will actually inhibit performance; whereas on a turbo the bigger and more free flowing, the better....
