Problem being my steering...

at times it under responds. for example the steering wheel turns more than the driving wheels do.

secondly,the steering goes from normal weight, to very light quite often.

and thirdly. at times the steering wheel will turn either more to the left or more to the right at higher speeds, so much so that the steering wheel is almost 1/4 turned when going straight. but this gradually reduces as the speed does.

what the hell is wrong with it??

i have no idea, the hicas light does come on sometimes, but its not usually in the same time these faults are happening.

it worries me to drive it, it feels sometimes like the steering wheel may turn without the wheels, it hasnt, but my god does it take away my confidence.

any way i can view/check this Jeff?

Need to get right under unfortunately, however if that is the problem which sounds very likely it is, then its fairly obvious as the bushes will be hanging and the rack will have marks on it where it has been moving left and right through through bushes.

cool, anything else it might be??? sorry to hound you, but it scares the c$ap outta me.

Lower arm outer ball joints, steering coupling, steering arms.

Jeff

This happened to me Aaron, it was my drivers side rear hicas arm inner joint. It came away from the "rear steering rack", just seem to unwind itself. Take a look at all wheels from fwd to aft, to see if they are "in line", so-to-speak.

Alz.

think hes talking boaty. front and rear.. aft is a boats arse

Aircraft....

Fwd= Forward

Aft= Rear

no thanks marty, i love the way my ass feels. i dont want any of your devices on my rear end :-)

ive got a Hicas delete kit that will sort out the rear end :)

Unless its The driftworks kit it wont mate,all it will do is replace the rack and utilise the original arms which are the main problem with hicas

With the steering going heavy and light it could also be a faulty delimiter, the cars have speed sensitive steering which can be upset when converting them from kmh to mph.

Its possible that your expecting the steering wheel to resist you but it isnt as its in light mode and your turning more than you expected :)
