Hey people,

Ok...... I have got a set of rear side markers with the modded opening and a connector for a light. Is there a standard connector in the loom for me to just "plug and play" to illuminate the rear red side markers with the lights switched on, or do i have to splice in a new connector.

Also, i would like to mod the front side markers (wing indicators) with an extra light, so this will be on with the main lights, 2 lights in total, 1 for indicator and 1 on with main lights....... if you know what i mean.

The rear side markers will need to be connected to your numberplate lights, there isn't a plug n' play option...

And if you mean you want a side light on your front wing indicators (I presume they are clear), as well as an indicator (I think that's what you mean) then it would just be a feed from your sidelights to a bulb holder, that should work (in theory, can't see why not)...

As Tudor says; Just run some wires from the numberplate bulbs. They will then come on with the headlight switch.

I think if you wire in another light to the wing indicator it will need to be amber and not white. So amber on with the side lights and the second amber for the indicators.

You could do that mod using the same bulb and having both the indicator and sidelight feed to the same bulb, use a diode on the side light side to prevent voltage returning through the system and a resistor to dim to sidelight brightness and when used as an indicator at full brightness the flashing will over ride the side light. Simples!!

Simples...... not for me buddy...lol.

Is this something you make and send to me Groover, or is it something i need to buy and assemble myself. (If the 1st option is correct i will pay for parts and labour.... :) )

Its actually easier than you think. I can get you the resistors and diodes, for pence and give you a wiring diagram. you are basically sending 2 feeds to one lamp, similar to led rear lights. You would need to splice into your existing 2 wires per indicator, take another 2 wires spliced from your side light and run to the indicator. On the feed (+) wire before the bulb, you have a ceramic resistor, which prevents full 12 volt to the bulb, giving the same brightness as a side marker/sidelight. A diode, which is a one way choke basically inline before the resistor, which allows voltage one way (to the bulb) but not back into the loom.

So the effect you get is a side marker on with the side lights and an indicator at full brightness, the bulb wont actually go off with the side lights on, but will still be a visible flash, similar to the way the old american cars have the rear lights wired.

If you want i will make up 2 lengths of wire for each side, with the bits on, then all you need to do is to splice into your side light and indicator feed.

You are a star matey, I love you, I love, I love you......lol (Only joking).

That would be excellent buddy. Let me know what the cost for parts, labour and postage will be and i will send a paypal gift. ( Please dont forget the wiring diagram, I am a structural Aircraft Engineer, my knowledge of electronics/electrics is very limited :( )

Thanks again Groover,

Alz.

No worries mate, will give it a go on mine first to make sure im not talking Bowllox , only kidding, i will make sure it will do what you require before i send. Will try and get it done by the weekend and get it off to you Monday.

Cheers

Graham

The corner markers for the front have two sections, 1 for a side light and 1 for an indicator, so you could have both seperate if you wanted... But you would have 2 indicators within a few inches of each other (unless yours is JDM with fog lights)

Some have the loom and connectors for the rear side markers already there, some dont.

Its unclear which have it though as I've seen older and newer models with it, and many of the same age and inbetween without it.

Do you know where they are located, if fitted.

if yours has them then they are inside rear bumper, near where the rear side marker location.

Cheerz matey, i will have a look when i start the fitment.

I took off my rear side markers today, and indeed there is a bulb holder and wiring (albeit with no bulb in) on my Jap import on both sides.

I tried seeing if a std 501 bulb would illuminate - no luck, but they fit in the bulb holder. So I tried an LED strip light and they lit up.

So, there is power in my rear side markers - which I thought only US models had??

Confused.com.

They come on with the sidelights or should do lol unless someone has had a play to be drl.

Managed to clean out some solder and convert them back to take the 501's. Now have working rear side markers. Woo-hoo!

I am wonder whether it was actually an option on JDM models. Mine had the wiring there, but didn't have the bulb holders in, just reflector corner markers. You can tell those that came with them fitted OEM, they should also turn on when you press the fog light switch with the main lights off. I'd imagine it's some sort of park function. If my ignition and lights are all off and I press the fog light switch, the corner markers illuminate. They then also illuminate with the main lights on.

Yes that's correct Si, hitting the fog light switch turns on the side light circuit but you went a long way round about saying it .
