Can you remove a NA engine without removing the autobox? Ive been trying today and the engine pulls forward but hits the steering rack on the sump and i just cant seem to get it past. Tried jacking up the autobox to give me some angle but nothing :( its only about 10mm off and if i lift the engine too much the gearbox just holds onto it. Anyone done this before as i cant be bothered removing exhausts and prop.

I have someone put one in with the gearbox on. Cant see why you cant remove it with a gearbox on. think you have to drop the bottom of the car down a bit..

no im trying to remove it with the gearbox still in and split it in situ rather than unmount the gearbox

And you get that 10mm you need by loosening the crossmember bolts to allow the whole assembly to drop... ......errr 10mm.:thumbup1:

no need to remove rack.

You did undo the four bolts to the torque conervertor didn`t you? if not it ain`t going come out that way!

oh  and where might they be in by the flywheel or external?

You naughty boy!!! ok on the passenger side of the rear of the engine at the sump level there is a side bracket held onto the block by two 14mm bolts, remove these and the bracket, assuming the splash plate between the engine and gearbox is still in pull this down, these now gives access to the bolts.

Rotate the engine till each one in turn becomes accessable to undo and remove, be carefull as the box has likely to be split apart from the engine and undoing the torque convertor at this point may make it shift so have a jack unde it ir similar.

With the torque convertor undone the angle to remove the engine will be different now, and you will not be trying to pull the torque convertor off the gearbox input shaft which is whats been stopping you.
