I have a squeal, but it doesn't seem to be a belt.
In the car it sounds like its behind the dashboard, when I first bought the car I thought it was the heater fan, but it isn't.
Under the bonnet, it seems to be coming from top left corner of the engine (as looking at the engine), I had considered the alternator belt, but it really does sound as if its coming from the back of the engine bay, master clutch cylinder area, or below...
Its more noticeable at idle and slow driving, but my exhaust is so loud when driving normally I can't hear if its happening then, don't think it is though. The squeal doesn't get louder, always the same.
