Little bit of an issue here [N.IRELAND] with MOT and Speedo regulation.

Basically imports here have to be dual marked as in MPH and KMH, were in the UK you can MOT the car on single display and just put an MPH sticker over the KMH.

My problem is, I dont want to mess about with the OEM white dials in my Version S cars, so I was thinking of getting an older cluster to pop in there to get it through MOT and then put the original back in. Being its a 99 car, what year of used dash will work? I'm thinking 95? Or will an earlier AUTO dash work?

Also anyone got one that has the dual markings already on it?

Oh, you want one like your eBay link but that goes to 180mph instead of the 120mph?

Hang on, isn't that just the UK set of clocks? I'm frustrated because I can't find you a definitive pic. This page has Japan and USA but only a description of UK http://www.300zx.org.uk/mod_comp_1.htm

I'm not sure if the needle sweep is the same or different (eg would a UK dial face read correctly when fitted to a JDM speeds that's been converted kmh>mph?).

But if you're doing a swap back, surely all you need is a set of UK clocks to pass the MOT? That is, if the UK clocks are dual marked like you need. Come on Richard, yours is UK, isn't it?

I did find this pic but can't find the original page so don't know if UK or converted or what but it dies imply that a dial face like the one you describe is/was available

1) look at the revs / speed  obviously a private road, officer.

2) think they're real UK clocks as the turbo and the oil pressure scales are in psi

Here are also a couple of custom dialface people I found

Thanks guys for the replys.

UK clocks I believe wont work in that the plugs are different to the later cars, so I needed the later type as I want the cluster to actually work incase they notice that nothing is working, then it would be a whole repeat session.

The ebay dial I posted about will work ok I believe, but as mentioned it would be nice to have 180mph when going to the hassle of getting a cluster, buying a new fascia and then having to remove the needle and install etc. Plus I may have another series 4 TT manual coming and its also in KMH so this new cluster will suit that also.

Better late than never (sorry Mike!) - but yes; that is indeed what the UK clocks look like with the dual markings....

Richard:biggrin:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
