uk spec or jap

help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! need advice what is the car to buy jap or uk

Featured Replies

I got a Jap simply cos I couldnt find a UK spec one that wasnt a dog. Get the Uk if you can find a good one as insurance is cheaper but really nice Z's can be hard to find so sometimes you cant be too choosy

Paul

Jap ones have a few extras fitted but can't be arsed going into detail again!

just find a good one. uk or jap doesn't matter much. UK spec easier to live with cos of insurance and uk bulb fittings etc. I run a jap.

Basically Coogs is right - just find a good one. I've got a 1989 J import and it's fine. I didn't know about the bulb thing so will have to do something about that - there's lots of stuff elesewhere in the forum.

Nissan Motor GB are helpful with advice etc even tho they didn't exist when the car was imported! Local Main Dealer also v helpful both with service & parts - checking with Japan for differences between UK & J. His comment was "we don't care whether it's UK or J spec - they're all Nissans and we look after them.".

Insurance was a problem with most insurers saying "sorry we don't deal with imported cars" (so I said "WTF do you think the UK cars came from in the first place?" but they had a sense of humour failure.) I ended up with Bell Direct who are happy with imports.

You might like to join the Z Club which has a mag and tech secretary and that sort of thing. They can be found (now let's see if I can get this to work) at www.lightman.co.uk/zclub.

Wave your mouse over the main page logo top left to find the link to AndyP's page which has a lot of good buyer's guide links.

V Minor nit picky legal point, the number plate size in the rear bumper cutout for J spec does not permit a legal plate. If you use the correct size numbers/letters, they are squeezed too close together. If you use motorcycle size letters to get the spacing right, they're illegal too! But I don't know of anyone who ever had a problem with this. Even last time I went to the local DVLA, there was a J spec Accord in the staff car park with illegal m/c letters!

Check the timing belt has been done at the correct interval. Because I had no service history with the J car, I got it done first thing just in case.

Me - I love the thing. Ferrari performance and Nissan service costs! (Can't be beat.)

In the end I prefer the J Spec models because the front badge says "Z" and not "Nissan".

Cheerio.

Concur Coogs comment too - find a good one.

This is perhaps easier through import as the cars tend to be a known good condition, low mileage, good spec....

If you are considering a 2+2 TT manual or auto, and can find a good one, then a UK model is worth looking into first for insurance, etc.., but tend to be a higher mileage than their import equivalents.

The main attraction for me in going for an import was that the 2-seater TT is also available. Other import options are that non-turbo 2+0; 2+2 and Convertable models are also available to give you something slightly different.

If you come down to the 2+2 TT model, then the UK/European cars have some mechanical extras for long motorway driving - larger and additional rads, but I don't believe these are a big issue unless crossing Germany flat out.

What a lovely choice you have!

Enjoy, Geoff

ok i get the point next little problem

what to go for manual or auto (prefer man but just cannot seem to find one [with leather] and or red/yellow

how picky am i !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no real difference between manal and auto, just down to preference

I looked around for ages and saw some very rough examples, finally fell in love with a black jap auto

Just bought the best one for money

That's my advise anyhow biggrin.gif

I was just about to say something rude about autos but realised just in time that this is probably an old subject. So I won't.

Oh alright I will.

What is the point of having a big swirly thing that stops power getting to the rear wheels?

(This is where I admit that I always use the air-con which also eats power..)

On the other hand, I can think of better uses of the left hand when the missus is in the car but I'm not certain if you should do this sort of thing while driving.

What Rob says makes a lot of sense - spend the money on the car not the colour (/trim/etc).

Have fun - Gio
