30?....more like 40-45mpg. or 50+ if your mostly doing motorway journeys.

For the Manual anyway, the Auto's are a fair bit thirstier.

Seconded.....530D touring I'm averaging over 40mpg on my daily work commute. Have seen over 50mpg on long runs.

Thanks for the reply's guys.

Bit like kid in a sweet shop at the moment as there are so many options!

Bmw seems to be the way forward.

think the mx5 does that on its own!

well i have embarrassed much bigger cars on twisty A/B roads. Dont get me wrong on the straights most modern saloons would leave me for dead but the mx5 can take corners at speed. The engine being nice and revvy with a car that weights nothing means it shouldn't be written off so quickly :)

My mates 52 plate 330d auto only got 30, so he sold and bought a 320d manual.

Could be the way he drives..

lol, i was just kidding, my previous includes a saxo vtr and an astra belmont :-)

yeh, the Auto's are apparantly a lot thirstier than the Manual, which is normal for any car but seems to be even more so for the Bmw auto.....but probably the way he drives too LOL

Been looking into them quite a bit as my next car, especially mpg info from other owners , and a while back I got the opportunity to drive one from the midlands, down to Devon. I..erm...."abused and Violated it like I stole it !"... and was very pleased to get an avg figure of 44mpg. Also, I think it was car.mad who recently got over 60mpg avg on the motorway in his.

The 320d is only supposed to be a couple of mpg better than the 330d from what others have said and lacks the performance and refinement of the 3.0d

I could well believe that....

.....the 3.0 would be a lot less stressed in pulling a heavy-ish car along; so no need to boot it as hard to get the same performance.

A bit like the old Ford Granada Scorpios in the early 1990s; it was pointless buying the 2.0dohc to save fuel when compared to the 2.9i as you had to thrash the 2.0 to make it move!! Damn thing ended up drinking as much fuel as the 2.9 - which was faster and smoother!!

Richard:lol:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

we have the 330d msport 204hp and 300lb/ft that this thing shifts and would waste my zed with ease the way i drove it last night (maooing it soon :biggrin)

Its an amazing engine and when you boot it, it sound amazing abit like my gsi v6 proper sporty

Becks at the min is getting 50mpg on b roads and going over the mountains which is amazing and thats giving it a bit aswell.

When i drove it from london back home i got 67mpg It is by far the best diesel engine out there, Not sure on the 335d,

Due to changing my job and doing a lot more miles, I posted up a similiar question, just over a week ago. Everybodys opinion varies ?

I didnt have the budget you have, but I just bought this today for my daily hack.

05 Mondeo, 2.0 DTCi, 130, Ghia, 6spd manual. One owner, a company in Leeds, so motorway miles on it mostly. Runs and drives as sweet as !

T&T`d for 6 months, £1900. According to the on-board computer she was returning 54.3 mpg on a run today ? Dont know how accurate these things are tho ?

Few pics.

I average 45/46 on my similar spec 04 estate. Thats a week in week out figure as I hadly ever re set the thing.

Genuine mixed driving. Motorways. commuting and down town.

Dull as dishwater but reassuringly reliable and comfortable. and cheap as chips to look after.

Thought it was too good to be true !

I did 12 miles, in 6th gear at bang on 70mph for it to read what it said.

My Dodge Ram does 12mpg, so 45 will be fantastic !!

Heard good things about them, and as you say, reliability and running costs

were all that concerned me. If I want to play, I will use my Ram !

Cheers, Pete.
