It was my friend's funeral today and even though is was a very sad day, also really lovely too, obviously a well loved man. Not ashamed to say, there was a lot of tears.

Anyway, I'm not religious in any shape or form but the strangest thing happened. Now, the weather in London is just grey clouds at the moment with rain all day yesterday and on and off today. The main part of the funeral was over and the priest was just saying the final prayers when all of a sudden, the whole church brightened up with sunshine, flooding through all the windows. Then about a minute or two later, sun was gone and it's not shone for the rest of the day.

I've not found God or anything but is that not wierd????

I think that is fitting, and I am sure you will remember it well, as you remember your friend.

sorry for your loss.

you do notice a lot of random things when at a funeral- somethings that are very normal in everyday life but they happen at the right time to make the day a little more special, at least you have a very nice memory to carry with you

I do believe in God and an afterlife. I'm a crap christian but I do believe God forgives our sins (thank goodness!) and I do believe ours souls go to heaven when we die.

I am sure your friend is in a wonderful place now. Sorry for your loss though, I'm sure it will have been a painful day. Glad you were all able to celebrate his life today

Sorry for your loss too Vijay....

.....but I hope the ray of sunshine reminded you of the good things about your friend.

All the best mate,

Agreeed it will serve as a reminder of the time you had him as a friend :)

I'm really sorry to hear about your loss and I do believe someone was watching over you.

I remember driving through Conwy tunnel in 1993 with my family just after my dad had passed away and my Mum said, "I wish something would happen to cheer us all up." No sooner had she said that when a car full of young lads and girls drew up along side us, beeped their horns like mad and ALL waved, smiled and gave us the thumbs up. It was so so strange and no-one had ever beeped in the new tunnel like they used to in the old ones and it just seemed so odd for them to do that just to us and at that precise moment in time. Later that day, I briefly turned on a TV and my dad's favourite song (a rare one, which I've not heard on TV or radio since and which we sang at the funeral) just happened to start at that moment. It was a very strange day, after which we felt that he was somehow still around. Interestingly, when he was younger, he was interested in the occult and the afterlife, but I never believed his stories when I was a kid! Makes you think though!

I hope time helps you heal and you can start to remember the good times, without the pain.

Thanks everyone. It was already a special day but that just brought something extra. Maybe as Batman said, on such a day you wouldn't notice something like the sun coming out but I know the whole morning was gloomy as I was walking outside so was in the rain and would have been happy to see the sun shine.

I'll like to believe it was something a little more than it might have been, brings a little comfort hoping he's in a nicer, better and more special place.
