Rear end instability and general poor traction was a passing comment when this particular zed was dropped for an MOT, tyre condition was discussed and the owner was happy with the tyres and that the tread level was good and thought maybe some wear in the suspension was to blame.

Later when on the ramp the cause of the poor traction was clear, the tread on the rear tyres was almost completely gone, except for the outside edge, the bit visible when glancing from above, giving the impression all was ok.

Of most worry was one tyre had exposed metal cords that had started to part from the rubber, a potential blow out waiting to happen, the owner was shocked and somewhat embarrassed gave immediate ok to fit new tyres, a check of the suspension and steering parts cleared them of any faults, the inner edge wear been due to lowered suspension combined with over pressure.

The importance of clear and accurate tyre checks cannot be stressed enough, with zeds been so low its so easy to make this mistake.

:detective::detective: Couldn't agree more Jeff, my dad worked for Dunlops for over 20years, he used to deliver tyres before he went into the offices, and some of the horror stories he saw. And then myself working as a paramedic, saw some right nasty RTC's caused by worn tyres, please please please keep a good eye on all of your tyres and the pressure in them........:detective:

thats terrible!

Jeff there was mention the other day at zedworld, about at what point you need adjustable camber arms. Someone mentioned you could only go 20mm lower on the standard setup. Is this correct?

hands up, whos run straight out to check their tyres?

Me,Me Me, but I fell over realising I wasn't in my wheelchair...........lol.....:sneaky2:

Just checked mine....oops...the inside quarter of both my rears has hardly any tread left! I will get them replaced asap. Excuse my lack of knowledge...but does this mean something needs adjusting and if so how?

I had my old bridgestone like that on the rear, In the snow was a right pig of a job.

Took them off to see and they looked just like above

My front Pirelli's were like that, well not as bad, but the metal chord was showing through on the inner edge. I wondered why i was getting vibration under heavy braking lol.

Since had the tracking done with new tyres and all sorted.

Jeez those boots are bad !! in my experience a lot of cars with hicas joints worn scrub the tyres on the inside like that on the rear,in can be be lowering also though.
