I have purchased 2nd hand series 2 PTU + bracket with cut off loom.

Firstly how do you get to the existing series 1 unit. Had a half hearted look and looks like plenum hoses pipes must come off but how as they seem pretty rigid. Does the series 2 unit mechanically fit to existing fixings. Also what is the difference in the wiring of connectors and fit/form etc? I was hoping to plug and play not cut up my existing loom.

Also what fails on series 1 units as mine seems fine when not piping hot. Can they be fixed?

1ST of all nothing needs removing to get the old PTU off except 4 screws that holds it to the cam cover.

The 0ne that you bought should have a platic plug either end, now has it got another plug either end attached to it? depending on what you have, it should simply be a case of pluging your existing plug in to an adapter loom.

Feel free to post a pic of exactly what you do have so we can give the correct advice.

Oh and fixing is a right ball ache and no gaurantee of doing it so it lasts, so not worth bothering about and yes it simply fixes in the old position.

The problem with the s1 PTU was that it would overheat and cause the car to run very poorly or cut out completely. You then had to wait for it to cool down before the car would start/run again.

you can also move the old PTU to give it a bit of air, you could stick it next to the air filter.

I can just about see old PTU and one bit of connector? I cannot see anyway of removing fixings without removing large rubber hoses? It's a TT by the way. As for adapter cable where do I get one from? Obviously the plugs and cutoff loom are from a series 2. I'll have to get round to take a picture.

I took my hose off to gain proper access to the screws. As for a loom, if you hard-wire it using the info/pictures in the link I posted then you wont need anything else other than what you've already got. getting hold of an adaptor loom will be very difficult, if not impossible.

Deffo show us what you have mate before hacking things.

At worst to remove is 1 intake hose on drivers side, 2 clips and job done.

Seeing as you don't want to mess with or cut existing wiring, if it already has an adapter plug on it, then it's a few mins fitted mate which sounds your best option for now.

If it hasn't, then Dave's idea is the thing to do.
